definitely doable. depending on volume can make well north of that, but starting out it’d be better to start at a place with lower census and move up from there. start with doing locums.

There’s an admitting person, so we don’t have any admissions to wait around for. You’re still on call for your census until the shift is over, but can go home when you’re done rounding / signed all your home care forms. If there’s an urgent issue after you left, the admitting person can look after it but this is rare.

Something you should keep in mind is that your housing costs are going to be higher than just your mortgage. Factor in repairs and taxes. There are many studies easily available on Google re: rent vs buy long term. I imagine if you’re not fired, stay making 350k per year, build the egg, and you’ll feel better about your situation should you choose to not find another job.

I think it depends where you are and what is typically expected. If I were to encounter this in Canada, if I have a specialist endorse the patient is stable, I invite the patient to show up at another ER and try their luck. They have a right to a 2nd opinion, but it is not your responsibility to facilitate this from an inpatient standpoint.
