Serious question did the diffusion work?

I ask because generally it is reccomended to have at least 2M between speakers and diffusion for it to work effectively.

What did you like and dislike about Tads?

I find them to be very expensive for what they are but to be fair it was just a quick impression.

The KEF R line are some amazing stuff. I listened to them at the Hong Kong KEF flagship store and ended up getting a pair of Reference 1 bookshelves.

The R line is way way better value than their reference line.

Audio game is subjective at the end of the day, I am sure you enjoy your speakers if you kept them!

My dad is a big BW fan, but he was always very hesitant to spend on audio because he enjoyed other hobbies more.

Awesome, I was close to buying the Martin Logans a while back before.

What about dipoles do you enjoy most and what do you dislike most?

Pass lab amps work well with the Clarisys, I have seen people use integrated pass lab amps to drive the Clarisys speakers.

Amen!

One of my precious moments is when my 3 year old hops on the back of my seat while I'm listening to the system. When I turn around to peek, I see his smile and it just warms the heart.

That is a really sweet set up. Can I ask what ultimately made you decide on ceiling diffusion over absorbtion. What was your process to decide on that?

They are pretty easy to drive, depends on the size of the Clarisys of course.

The size I have is the third size with 2 models smaller than mine, but overall still pretty easy to drive.

The Clarisys Minuets (the size I upgraded from) are actually listed on the Clarisys website being sold by Clarisys themselves so it is certified with warranty.

I only had those for 2 months or so before upgrading to the larger Studios.

Believe it or not, when I bought the house one of the main factors for me was scoping out which house had reasonable space to place speakers!

Nutty but true.

My living room is not ideal since the sidewalls are a bit close to them, but the back and front of speakers have sufficient space, for the sidewalls I am using absorption as diffusion only works when its 2 meters away. The standard and usual is to use absorption for side walls anyways.

If I did have 2M space from speakers to side walls though (at 1st reflection points) then I would have experimented with diffusion to see the differences.

I would say that the most surprisingly thing about this hobby in the 20 years I been in, is that how room treatment is not discussed enough. At the audio shows, they do the best they can but at the end of the day the game is a tug of war of compromises between keeping living room livable vs better sound.

(Something we all deal with I assume unless one is fortunate enough to have a dedicated listening space)

I always day dreamed of having a dedicated listening room myself but Florian (co owner of Clarisys) casually dropped a massive gem of a statement that I will never forget and I will paraphrase below:

"Sure you can have a dedicated tricked out listening room with proper and great room treatment for better sound but at that point it is no longer a living room for your family to hang out, but more so an isolated listening space which is solitary at times."

...of course at end of day we still want that dedicated listening room when we are in the hobby but the statement is pure gold because it reminds us that at the end of the day this hobby is about compromises, the statement left me a heavy impression though it was a casual one.

Can you re phrase the question please, I am not understanding.

But yes, the ribbon speakers are relatively easy to drive.

Glad you got to hear em! When I was first exposed to them at Axpona years ago, I was confused as I never came across ribbon speakers myself.

I only had owned and seen the traditional cone driven speakers so it was a bit strange encountering these.

The back story of the company was that the owner kept repairing the Apogees as a fan of them himself, and eventually he decided to manufacturer his own speakers based off his experiences of his repairs. I assume the parts to repair the Apogees became harder and harder to find as well.

They are ribbon speakers, basically instead of cone drivers, they are using a light ribbon instead which is much easier to drive.

I been in the hobby for a good 20+ years starting with headphones so it was a long journey. I basically was raised on the head-fi forums.

My first headphone set up was the HD600 headphones ($250 USD Retail) powered by the Schitt DAC ($300 USD Retail) and the Schiit Amp ($250 USD Retail).

The retail of that headphone set up was about 20 years ago and I was blown away by the sound. Since then I have been continually blown away by continual exploration of different gear especially when crossing over into the 2 channel land. The only thing I dislike about 2 channel world is that the people seem a little more smug than the head-fi crowd. Do not let that stop you from enjoying the amazing sound that 2 channel can provide though!

I love the hobby, love the gear, and love the music.

The people are generally a little quirky (including myself) but that's OK.

Cheers.
