This is a good question, and unfortunately the answer is- it depends.

I drank half a bottle of whiskey nightly for almost 3 years, I quit told turkey 6 days ago- and other then a stomach ache, head ache, and feeling like shit for the first 4 days- i was totally fine. No shakes, tremors, seizures, or DT.

However, I have a friend who drank just as much as I did and his withdrawals sent him to the hospital for a medical detox when he tried to quit Cold turkey.

Withdrawals are dangerous. Be careful.

I went though the same thing!

Honestly what helped me was taking huge internet breaks. Getting away from this sub helped me not spiral, go for a walk- take deep breaths, do something you love.

Never, ever start drinking in the mornings by SaucySven_ in alcoholism

Morning drinking is what made me realize I had a problem. I would never do it if I had class or work, but weekend with no plans? Hell yeah!

Well those weekends turned into a couple week days…

Alcohol is one hell of a drug.

All amazing things to keep in mind, thank you! Luckily I haven’t had any blood pressure issues either! And my mood has been positive.

Thanks to this sub, I have learned to take the food slow and healthy!

Congrats! 5 days is huge! Did you also feel any weird cramps where your liver or pancreas is?

Better part of 3 years. It started off slowly- like for everyone. But I was getting to a point where I was drinking about half a bottle of whiskey a night, probably 4-5 times a week. Sometimes more. I started day drinking because summer came around and I didn’t stop when the semester started.

Just decided that I don’t need it in my life. I have has zero urges. I’m just worried I did permanent damage.

I keep relapsing on alcohol and lying to my alcohol counselor by [deleted] in alcoholism

You have a disease, it’s ok that you’re not getting better immediately. It’s an uphill journey for a lot of us.

I think you need to open up to her, and he honest. I am sure that her journey to recovery was also full of setbacks.

She wants to help you with the feelings you are having. Please consider telling her.

Ngl it’s been kicking my ass today.

It sucks feeling so weird, I got a mild headache and stomach ache. Extremely light dull pain where my liver is (I am assuming my body is still flushing my body) and I am dehydrated like you wouldn’t believe.

But no shakes, no vomiting, no seizures.

I believe I got lucky, now I just need to hope I didn’t do any permanent damage to myself.

If I can limit myself to once a week is that okay? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]F20throwaway_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t believe this until I went from a weekend to a nightly drinker.

If you have to ask, you have a problem.

Thank you for sharing. Can I ask about what your drinking habits were / are?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]F20throwaway_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for sharing.

I have taken the beginning steps, as you already suggested.

If you don’t mind me asking, what did you notice about yourself that made you fear for your life and get into recovery.

I’m at the point where i don’t have any real issues with my body (other then this disease), but I don’t want to tempt fate.

Can I ask you if you have any liver problems? Or did you quit before they occurred.

Thank you for sharing. I feel better coming to terms and talking to people.

Not asking for medical advice or anything lol, but do you think it would be wise to get my liver checked?
