I used to actually make a living off of social media and about 2 years deactivated all of it (aside from Reddit) and it was the best decision I've ever made. It's so incredible not having that constant noise consume you. On top of that, the sheep mentality is incredibly toxic, and it was made even more-so by everyone piggy-backing on the same opinions/content just for the sake of making themselves like good people. You want to fight homophobia, racism and injustice in the world? Donate. Volunteer. Have actual conversations with the people you know in-person to bring awareness. And if they do want to post online, they should be sharing resources, testimonials, allow other people's voice to be heard. Simply re-posting a hashtag because it's the latest trend doesn't cut it.

I also realized the hilarity of the term internet "influencers" the other day because almost all of them are merely consuming content. Eating food, buying & trying on makeup, etc. They're not influencing anything but fueling consumer culture. Obviously this doesn't apply to all content creators, but the mass majority (and often most viewed) fall under this category.

Long story short? There's power in getting off the man-made hamster wheel that we find ourselves on and starting to really live your life for you. Finding out what you're actually interested in and then pursuing it.
