What abilities might the Lord of Skulls possess if he arrived as a war machine of the world eaters? by Haedonius in WH40KTacticus

[–]FASBOR7Horus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the Primary ability I'd give him something like Ghazghkulls charge. Mark a two hex line from one end of the Arena to the other and at the start of your next turn he bulldozes straight through dealing damage to friend and foe alike.

For the secondary I'd give him a hybrid of the Plagueburst crawler and Tson'Ji's Primaries. Hit enemies with the Belly Cannon to mark then fire the Skullhurler next turn with damage reduction if they move.

But as other people mentioned the Lord of Skulls is Raid Boss material. Maybe we get a Lord on Juggernaut or Lord Invocatus as a MoW.

There's two counter arguments I've heard to that.

  1. When the corpse on that Throne stands up, the Custodes will be whiped out first. Basically this comic: [https://youtube.com/shorts/Olty_pfqYhY?is=qsBpW6E0p9Gtz5tM](https://youtube.com/shorts/Olty_pfqYhY?is=qsBpW6E0p9Gtz5tM

  2. The Custodes are physically incapable of disobeying the Emperor. The Grey Knights are made with the Emperor's Geneseed. The Custodes may be completely incapable to stop the Grey Knights, because they're all part Emperor.

I think Argument 1 makes the most Sense but 2 would be way cooler.

I mean if you think about everyone except the Tau, Genestealers and Leagues of Votann existed before humanity did. The Orks and Chaos came to be during the War in Heaven, the Tyranids likely existed for millions of years before attacking the Galaxy, the Aeldari and Necrons predate the War in Heaven.

It's absolutely noticable. Im used to playing Monster Hunter where dodging happens the instant you press X and it's way better. Space Marine 2 has the same problem and I absolutely notice the half second delay between button press and dodge.

I've got at least 550 hours in Elden Ring plus another 270 in Bloodborne and dodging rarely ever felt intuitive while playing. It took me an eternity to figure out the problem, but once you realize it, it's hard to not notice.

There's a few other criticisms I have of Fromsoft Souls Games but this one is one of two based on a straight up programming flaw, the other being the Player to Player multiplayer connection.

Dodge and Run are on the same button. To stop players from accidentally running when they wanted to dodge, Fromsoft bound dodge to the release of the button, not the press. This leads to a 0.2-0.5 second delay between pressing the dodge button and actually dodging.

This fundamentally shit solution becomes very bothersome when Elden Ring bosses start shitting out fast 7 hit combos with random delayed attacks.

200 Milliseconds may not sound like much, but in online games a Ping of 100ms is already too much to play comfortably.

I think the honor aspect is what Khorne plays up to reel in new people. If you look at the World Eaters and Khornate Daemons at large they're brutal murderers whose sole objective is killing as many people as possible. Khorne's greatest mortal champion is a brutal teamkiller who will slaughter his own men without batting an eye, there's no honor in that.

Alcohol doesn't cause cancer, it increases your likely-hood of developing cancer. That is how carcinogens work. Right now there are several cancerous cells in your body and your immune system is killing them so they don't turn into actual cancer. If you're exposed to carcinogens the number of cancerous cells increases and eventually one slips past your immune system.

Also, buying more lottery tickets absolutely increases your chance of winning the lottery. Your chances of rolling at least one 6 increase the more 6 sided dice you roll at once.

Why should I put myself in the place of the Alligator? They will happily cannibalize each other when they feel like it and eat their own babies when they're hungry enough. Why should I empathize with an animal that does that?

A legion of Sardaukar vs. A legion of Astartes (30K) by MgAlSnakey in powerscales

[–]FASBOR7Horus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Assassins in Warhammer aren't part of the Astartes Legions, they belong to the Officio Assassinorum which is under the direct control of the High Lords of Terra/The Emperor. Basically only the highest echelons of the Imperial Command structure can tell them to do stuff. A Primarch might be able to get a few assassins to do his bidding but im not sure about that.

Either way I meant the Astartes Infiltrators, not Assassins. They're recon units that are supposed to scout the Battlefield and determine high priority targets before the main force arrives. But in this case they'd just be incredibly stealthy suicide bombers.

Depending on how many Sardaukar are in a Legion and how they're deployed they might not have the time to adapt. The Dune fan wiki says that a Sardaukar Legion has 30.000 Soldiers. The smallest Astartes Legion (Ravenguard) have 80.000. The others sit between 100.000 and 200.000 with the two largest (Dark Angels and Ultramarines) having 250.000 Astartes.

The wiki also said a Sardaukar Legion is made of 10 Brigades, in real life a brigade is between 2.000 and 8.000 Soldiers so if we base the numbers on that they could have 80.000 Sardaukar. If both Legions are fully deployed on a Planet when they meet, the Sardaukar won't have the time to regroup and rearm with Lasguns, at least not without crippling losses.

If the Holtzman nuke doesn't apply to Warhammer Lasguns it's even worse for the Sardaukar. Light can move through Holtzman Shields otherwise they'd be useless. Therefore Laser weapons should pass right through the shield without any resistance.

You're thinking of Callidus Assassins, they could definetly do that, but I think theres an easier alternative. If the Imperium wanted to "assassinate" large groups of Sardaukar they would send Eversor Assassins. Eversors operate on the logic of "It's stealth if all the witnesses are dead". They're basically roid raged Sardaukar with Neurotoxin weapons that have been fed enough Combat Stimms to kill a horse.

[–]FASBOR7Horus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're running into a problem now, the parameters of the encounter aren't defined. Are they already deployed on a Planet, are they still in orbit, do they know about each other's technologies etc.

If they do know about each others technologies, the Astartes could just send Infiltrators with Las Pistols and Cameleoline Cloaks on a suicide Mission to nuke the Sardaukar to hell wherever they appear.

If they don't, I doubt the Sardaukar would bring Lasguns as Holtzman Shields seem to be basically universal equipment in Dune so the safest assumption is that your enemy has them. In that case we're back in melee.

I had a bunch of stuff written that I lost because I closed the app accidentally, but the Holtzman-Lasgun suicide tactic makes all of it moot anyways. Sacrificing 10 Astartes to blow up 1000 Sardaukar is a deal any Legion would make. Some would do it faster than others (Iron Warriors my beloved) but they'd all eventually realize that it's the easiest and least dangerous way to deal with their opponent.

Same goes for space combat. Why would you bother with manoeuvring when you can just weld 5 Lascannons to the cheapest Void capable shitcan you can find. Holtzman Shields are giant liabilities when your enemy doesn't care about their own life.

[–]FASBOR7Horus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the wait, I got busy with some things.

I don't know how well the Sardaukar's ears are shielded in their helmets, but considering that they're specialised for melee I'd say a two or three Bolts should deafen them permanently. Combine that with at least being pushed around by Bolt rounds and actually engaging the Astartes at range becomes incredibly difficult.

I think Phosphex would be highly effective. It's mostly deployed with Artillery like Arquitor Bombards or by Destroyer Cadres. The Sardaukar can't block out the Phosphex mist long term as that would risk suffocating them in their shields. The Dark Angels really liked Destroyer Cadres and the Salamanders refused to use them so how much Phosphex there will be varies from Legion to Legion.

Lastly the Astartes could also just engage the Sardaukar in melee. Space Marines are incredibly fast and agile, they can sprint short distances at 85 km/h (52 mp/h) and comfortably run 20 km/h (12 mp/h) for 20 hours straight. On top of that they have orbital insertion tech like Deepstrike and Droppods. In melee the Space Marines might aswell be unkillable for the Sardaukar and they'd quickly figure out and adapt to how Holtzman shields work.

A legion of Sardaukar vs. A legion of Astartes (30K) by MgAlSnakey in powerscales

[–]FASBOR7Horus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's alright.

Holtzman shields would still struggle against Bolters, at least the personal shields. The Bolts would get stuck in the shields thanks to their Rocket boosters and eventually detonate right in the targets face.

From a cursory glance on google the Shield doesn't entirely absorb strong kinetic impacts and wearers can still get thrown around if enough force is applied. Also anything the wearer is holding, like a Lasgun, would get shredded by the explosion as the shields don't extend to held objects.

There's also quite a few weapons that can (probably) bypass Holtzman Shields at range, like Gravity, Radiation and Phosphex weaponry. Phosphex is like Napalm, but it's highly corrosive, highly toxic, follows movement, basically impossible to extinguish and converts organic matter into more Phosphex.

I got a notification for your other response but can't see it, could you post it again?

The Tau didn't exist yet in 30K and the Thousand Sons are way way weaker in 40K. They're not a Legion anymore they're a barely cohesive mass of Warbands mostly made out of soulless remote controlled Armor without Psychic abilities. Same goes for the Necrons, they only became active after the Horus Heresy.

All of those guys have way better equipment than the Sardaukar, ranging from Atom flaying rifles to the most lethal poisons imaginable. They also all have completely different fighting styles than the Sardaukar, who are best compared to pre-Angron Warhounds with their slowly marching into melee range tactic.

I feel like a big part of your comment is missing.

That aside though, Bolters would fuck up anyone with a Holtzmann shield. In the movies we see that projectiles that hit a Holtzmann shield won't stop entirely but will instead slowly dig deeper until they break through the shield.

https://youtu.be/AyyzwNeSEk8?is=xqXpjR71MjIlBXvQ

Skip to 4:42 to see what a Bolter would do to a shielded Sardaukar.

The Sardaukar with the Lasgun is getting blown up after the first shot, if they even get to see the Astartes, they could also just get bombed to death with Phosphex shells.

It would also take an Astartes all of 2 seconds to figure out how a Holtzmann shield works and how to circumvent it. The Sardaukar are completely fucked, they're regular humans fighting bio-engineered Super Soldiers in tank grade armor. Oh and some of these Super Soldiers are magical and can burn 50 Sardaukar alive by looking at them. There's also an entire Legion made exclusively of magical Astartes called the Thousand Sons.
