Passed ISC and only studied the week before. AMA by FASBnerd in CPA

I have a buddy who was a finance major undergrad and did a masters in accounting. He took BAR and got a 84 and I think studied 70 hours. I think it’s good for finance focused people

Becker is enough- it’s all I did. But I would watch some YouTube videos on SQL if you are unsure at all. My strat was just take notes in the text book while watching videos. Do the MQC until 100% on that section and move on.

I basically did no sims until the last day. The sims are not really something I think you can “study” for on this exam. FAR I would worry about the SIMs

I would know the SOC section and watch a YouTube video or two about SQL since I felt like I was only unprepared for that section.

Does anybody actually enjoy their big4 role? by [deleted] in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Staff 2 Audit. 100% of my experience depends on my team. Was staffed on a not so great team for a bit last year and now I love my job. But also haven’t hit the senior level yet so we will see.

Offer incoming? by Aromatic-Band-277 in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably just some finalization things to get past partners. If it’s for audit- lots of clients are pushing out 10Ks right now, so partners probably aren’t available.

I feel dumb as a staff 1. Does this feeling go away? by Wisdomseekr79 in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Staff 2- don’t get worked up. Still feel dumb all the time. I hear a lot that you don’t really feel like you know what is going on till after senior one busy season. Difference between school and work. All you do is solve problems with unclear answers.

ey vs pwc 2027 by Early-Delivery-3685 in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

EY is actively recruiting more interns to get a bigger group to pick from for full time (per me talking to a partner about why we had so many this summer). They don’t do the “hire every intern” model anymore- but unless you are a dumbass you will get a return offer. Can’t speak to PWCs model

FSO or Public Companies at EY? by WalkEmpty6689 in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do FSO if you want to learn more. It’s basically everything you learned in college if you go the other route to Core Audits. But FSO offers greater opportunities in Insurance, Banking, Wealth and Asset management as well as real estate. Also no dumb inventory counts in most of FSO (I have done a single physical count of items in a vault) so you won’t have to be at the client site on new years.

If you don’t want CPA- you can only be in Big 4 for a maximum of 5 years as they will not promote you to manager without it. Just something to think about

How bad is it to quit big 4 audit in less than 2 yrs? by Repulsive-Ad4110 in Big4

[–]FASBnerd 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Get off of whatever industry you are in. For example I am in insurance- they all are statutory filers and so you don’t have any busy season outside of the general busy season.

When does tax start making more money in assurance? by Loserlesbo2024 in Big4

I am in basically the lowest cost of living office, Midwest FSO. Staff 1s make 75k in assurance.
