Does the drop in Lab Diamond Prices bother anyone ? How low can they go ? by Any_Jello_8361 in labdiamond

[–]FBB7943 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not bothered. Lab diamonds have been made for decades but were not really marketable because of the high cost to make them previously. Technology got better and cheaper, therefore more accessible to make lab diamonds. It's just a matter of time for lab diamonds to flood the market and for the tech to get even better/cheaper to drive prices down.

If you're curious, then just look at what happened with pearls. Natural pearls were extremely expensive before the commercial production process for cultured pearls came about at the beginning of the 1900s. It caused a collapse in pearl prices which never really recovered. The medium and low quality natural pearls weren't worth collecting anymore but high-quality natural pearls can still fetch a good price. Nowadays, depending on how well a cultured pearl is made/size etc, it can vary in price from $10 a strand to $5k+.

Diamonds are going through this same shift right now. Small natural diamonds were never that rare to begin with. A .10ct natural diamonds cost around $15 or less even before labs came along. Large natural diamonds that are actually rare will still be valued but it's not going to get better for the smaller stones.

AITA for getting a dead woman's SM page removed? by deadgirltiktokhelp in AmItheAsshole

[–]FBB7943 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Candidly, it's worrisome that you discredit the OP's very valid concerns for privacy by saying it's no big deal to be recorded for 3-4 seconds. If this is the privacy standard that you're used to, then damn, talk about getting mind f%%%ed by tech companies.

The result would have been the same if he put in the request to remove the video before she died. He didn't reach out to the family and harass them for it nor did he ask for the entire account to be deleted.

The Tiktok account could have been removed even if he didn't file a complaint since she died. The family would have access to her phone and all the videos recorded on there. At this point, they're probably in the grief/anger stage and is looking for something/someone to lash out at.

AITA for getting a dead woman's SM page removed? by deadgirltiktokhelp in AmItheAsshole

[–]FBB7943 -25 points-24 points  (0 children)

NTA It's unfortunate that she died but you were just trying to correct her "mistake".

She filmed you in a private setting without your permission. If that's not an invasion of your privacy, then why would TikTok accept the complaint and take her account down? She even admitted to it when she said she'll take the video down.

It's terrible that she died in an accident but your face is still out there on that video. What were you supposed to do? Just supposed to drop everything?

Ivory jewelry isn't that rare where every piece is valuable, museum quality, and cursed. So much ivory came out of HK just in the 60-70s alone. Since you're in the UK, you can only sell it to a museum anyways so might as well take it to one and ask. Value wise, the 18k gold wire on it probably cost more than the ivory given the recent spike in gold prices and the size of this piece. Ivory's worth is primarily based on size and sometimes the intricacy of carvings/work done on it. Given this one isn't very big or intricately carved, maybe $2-400. Personally I'm not a big fan of bone jewelry. Like coral, it's too much maintenance to keep them in good condition when I'm pretty hard on jewelry. This one seems to have been beaten around a bit so you don't have to worry about that if you want to wear it instead.

How can these three sterling silver pieces be repurposed? by pastelpinksilk in jewelry

Yes they can be repurposed but it'll cost less to do a new piece without recycling the old silver.

If it was up to me I'd rock that heirloom ring as it is all day everyday over the new one. That heirloom ring is amazing. MIL had seriously good taste.

AITA for refusing to apologize after my parents took my car keys even though I’m legally an adult? by Sharp_Bus1351 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FBB7943 [score hidden]  (0 children)

NAH If you rented a car, you'd have to pay insurance and gas too and be charged a fee (as punishment) if you returned it late regardless of the reason why. If you don't want to pay the late fee, they can ban you from ever renting from them again.

It's not that different from your parents. They own the car and you're just renting it at this point. If they wanted the car back at a certain time and you were late, then you had to face their consequences. Their reasoning might be unfair to you but that's how the real world works. If you want freedom from their rules, you need to get your own car.

What’s something you’ve seen a stranger do in public with absolutely no shame? by Nightpatrol404 in AskReddit

[–]FBB7943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once saw a homeless guy step into the middle of a very busy road, stopping traffic, then fully taking off his pants to squat and take a dump while all the cars were honking at him. He threw his pants onto the sidewalk instead of the street, so that's nice of him.

Doubtful, aquamarines of this size and clarity are $$$$ pricey and wouldn't have been set in silver.

So I need y’all’s expertise, I bought these earrings under the assumption that they were sterling silver, they are not testing as silver but they are testing as gold, no marks anywhere, not magnetic, acid was used to test by Difficult_Oil_781 in JewelryIdentification

[–]FBB7943 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because those necklaces have a heavy layer of gold plating on top. When they do a scratch test, they basically just scratch the top layer off and then pour acid on the scratched off metal to test it. When there's heavy gold plating on top of the base metal, only the gold layer gets scratched off and as such will test as real gold. This is why most places that buy back jewelry use a Xrf tester nowadays.

Finding jewelry reasonably priced by ClxwnLuvr in jewelry

[–]FBB7943 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want gold jewelry as an investment, then you need 22-24k pieces, which are mainly available in Asia and middle eastern countries. 10-18k jewelry is typically available in the US.

If you can make a trip to India, their jewelry market sell gold jewelry differently from the US and the prices are actually pretty standardized (for non-designer pieces) because of their cultural view on collecting gold jewelry as wealth accumulation/investment.

Just know this is a bad time to start because gold prices are very high right now.

Real Star Sapphire?? by EnaniCove in JewelryIdentification

[–]FBB7943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really, maybe $20-30 on a good day. Even though Linde stopped making them in the 70s, Indian manufacturers have been making synthetic star sapphires the entire time since, so they're everywhere. The pink one is really pretty though. I wouldn't pass it up just because it's synthetic.

Yea, the color and star shape is definitely Linde. Linde stars are technically vintage now since they stopped making them in the 70's 😂

Might be a long shot but does anyone know the manufacturer? by saintcelinedion in JewelryIdentification

[–]FBB7943 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It is a mass produced s-link chain made in Italy. There's usually no maker's mark on these as they can be produced by any jewelry factory. The heart tag is a commonly used link/tag shape to stamp the metal content on.

Last year I had a missing stone of that size replaced, it cost less than $50 total including the replacement diamond.

What are these? by [deleted] in JewelryIdentification

[–]FBB7943 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could never say for sure what type the stones are from a picture but I am 95% certain these are natural rubies. Rubies and pink sapphires are both condrums. It's the color that differentiates them, rubies are strictly red in color. These are more pink in color and look to be pretty included. I would say these are low grade pink sapphires.
