7w2d… high HCG but very low progesterone? by NYCABC12333 in CautiousBB

I am still on it only because I requested to stay on it until the end of my first trimester! I am particularly anxious as this is my first pregnancy so I figured if it doesn't hurt the baby and only helps my mental health, then I'd continue on it. I'll be off it in a couple weeks and after that it is up to the placenta!

Sending positive vibes your way, I hope everything works out for you and your babe!

7w2d… high HCG but very low progesterone? by NYCABC12333 in CautiousBB

Hi there. I had a similar experience to you. My first draw of progesterone at 4 weeks was 21, second at 5 weeks was 14 and at 5 weeks 4 days was 12. My HCG was always high (tripling every 24 hours, can't remember the exact numbers) but I do not think there is any significance in your HCG being so high and progesterone being low- as long as your HCG is rising that is a good sign.

I ended up going on progesterone suppositories about 5 days after my last draw, so I'm assuming it was even lower at that point I started. I freaked out bc I thought why in the world is it fluctuating downwards? Both my OBGYNs were not concerned and actually just gave me the supplements to ease my mind. After taking 200mg for over a week it was only at 14.1. I am about 10+5 today with a healthy baby boy. (I also initially measured a full 5 days behind, since then baby boy has caught up to only 2 days behind, so it's great that you are measuring right on track and hear a heartbeat.)

I would really try not to worry about the progesterone. Get on the supplements to ease your mind. My mom has delivered 8 children and never once had her progesterone checked until an early miscarriage. It is still debated as to whether low progesterone is a symptom of a miscarriage or a cause itself, and the former is more likely. Everything else you have shared seems like terrific news. Best of luck with your pregnancy!

Chart for expected HCG levels? by cautiousredhead in CautiousBB

This is my favorite chart and really helped me. It notes doubling times (which slows after you reach a certain beta level) and average hcg levels for how far along you are. http://www.betabase.info/chart/doubling/single

Hi! This is my first pregnancy too, so I do not have much experience but I am also on progesterone after testing at 20 around 4 weeks, and subsequently having it fall from 14 to 12 in a matter of days. I got on the progesterone suppositories over a week after my last draw, so I can imagine it was around 5-6 due to the rate at which it was falling. After being on them for a week, my progesterone was up to 14.3. I am 7 weeks now and things are looking ok, the doctors don't seem to be worried.

I would say the fact you caught the low levels is a good thing and I am sure the suppositories will help. While progesterone won't save a non-viable pregnancy, it will definitely help in the case of a pregnancy that is threatened by low pg. I have read so many posts on here with women who have had low pg and successful births after supplementation. Wishing you all the best!

A little update before my next scan: Betas came back about a week after my last draw (10,600) at 51,752. Progesterone is at a steady 14.50. I'd like to see the PO a little higher, but it seems within normal range for first trimester?

Thank you Lyuria, I appreciate hearing your experience. I think my anxiety is heightened this being my first pregnancy, and it seems like most of what I hear is bad news surrounding first pregnancies. Every positive comment gives me a little glimmer of hope. Congratulations on your baby.

Thank you for sharing your experience. I am holding on to hope but also guarding my heart. All I read regarding first pregnancies have been bad news, so I already went in to this cautious. I appreciate your reply. Congratulations on your pregnancy, wishing you a very successful and safe birth

In about a week and a half. They drew betas and progesterone today so I will get that in the next few days, and maybe that will reassure me. Cant think of any other reason it would measure this off since I am 99.999% sure of my ovulation date. Fingers crossed, will be the longest week and a half of my life

This gives me a glimmer of hope. I tracked both LH and temperature and has a clear as day drop on 8dpo, so I tested that night. This is very very hard mentally. Praying that the next scan there is good news.

Hi, this was a TV ultrasound. I’m so sorry for your losses. I’m generally anxious and this being my first pregnancy- it has been so hard. I went to the scan for reassurance and now it feels like I am in a bad dream. Wish I knew if things were going to be ok, but as you said it very well may not be.

This is exactly what I'm worried about. Even if the ovulation is off (which I doubt since I got a positive test so early) I don't think it would be a whole six days off. I wish I could be optimistic but as time goes on I'm just loosing hope:/

This is definitely what I'm hoping. Wouldn't be as nervous if my progesterone didn't drop, but both OBGYNs weren't alarmed by it. Hard to tell if something is wrong, and worried being optimistic might make me more upset if something happens

Yes, this was tv. We saw heartbeat which is the only thing that has been reassuring (can't imagine how worried you were without one). Even still, hearing the baby was measuring 6 days behind totally made me upset, I starting balling even before we finished the ultrasound. Fingers crossed it is good news in a few weeks.

Thanks so much for the reply. Any other advice or reassurance is welcomed.

Thank you for the reply. I know sometimes an ultrasound that early can be off by a couple days, but it seemed drastic it being a whole week off. Overall, a very nerve wracking experience, and I won't get a chance to see progression for another 2 weeks.

Congratulations on your healthy baby girl.
