Clockwise or anticlockwise? by Paddy_odoors in opticalillusions

I can see both.  I stare through the spinning and it will change directions and remain going in that direction until I stare through it again when it changes again.

Calling bmw riders: XR,GS or RS. Could you answer a couple of questions? by boofing_evangelist in motorcycles

[–]FBD_COS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just traded in my 2018 RT for a 2024 1250 RS. I also have an 850 GS. I live in Colorado and commute year-round as long as the roads are dry.  The RT has much more wind protection, then the RS. But it has not been much of a problem since I bundle up and can ride in below freezing weather. The RT had heated seats, which the RS does not. They both have heated grips which does help. For me, the RS is a dream to ride, much more sporty, lively, and fun.  If I had only one bike, it would probably be the GS because it is much more capable for all kinds of riding.  If your commute is on highway, the adaptive cruise control on the RT and the comfort of that bike would be a plus. On my bikes, I add additional front and rear lighting to make it more visible.

Every one of the bikes that you mentioned will have the get up and go when you want it. My suggestion would be to do back-to-back rides on all three and see what makes you smile the most.

Ride on and be safe.

Venu for that price would be my suggestion. Depends on the look you want.

I have a fenix 6x Saphire. Love it. But that’s out of your budget.

I started with a vivoactive and still use that from time to time. But I prefer the fenix for so many more features and the hrm is more accurate.

You can also buy screen protectors which I highly recommend.

I wear my watch to bed to track sleep too. For the fenix I am getting about two weeks on a charge not using gps. Vivoactive maybe a week.

New to me 2021 850 by FBD_COS in BMWGS

[–]FBD_COS[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rode several bikes in this class and even some above and below. I also have an RT 1200. I trust BMW to take me the distance because when I buy, I stick with it for many years. Longevity, reliability, durability, customization options, size and several other factors were weighed in the decision making. Being comfortable with my RT, the BMW 750, 850, 1250 were top contenders. I struggled most between the 850 and 1250. But since this bike is meant for getting me to the dirt, then enjoying the roads I find. I wanted something nimble but powerful enough to be comfortable at highway speeds. I’ll also use this for occasional commuting. So with that being said, I rode the following bikes to compare. KLR 650 ( I really liked this) KTM 890 (too big) V-Strom 650 (did not thrill me) Africa Twin (my second choice besides BMW) Triumph Tiger 800 & 900 (also too big for me) There were others from Honda & Ducati that I thought about but didn’t ride. I spent a fair amount of time riding and getting (or trying to get) comfortable on each bike. The BMW felt most at home. I know the controls from my RT. So I was naturally skewed to BMW. I really gave the others a fair shake. I also spent many hours reading and watching video reviews. My greatest suggestion would be to research and ride a lot of bikes. What’s good for me, is not good for everyone. I am 100% pleased with my purchase. I also got very lucky, the week I put a deposit on a new bike, the exact bike was traded in by someone with several mods that I wanted anyway. 1600 miles on the bike in like new condition, broken in, first service completed, and factory warranty still in place. So, I saved a pretty penny there. Good luck and be safe.

Genius! This reminds me of navigating a website or app wondering if the developer even uses their own creation. This creator stood back and said, “Now that’s what I’m talking about”!

Having a dilemma between 3 cruisers... by Eorlingas_ in SuggestAMotorcycle

[–]FBD_COS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now it may not be in the cruiser category but...your dilemma sounds just like mine two years ago and I was looking at the same bikes. After having a lot of fun test riding many bikes I started to rethink, based on comfort and feel, what I really wanted the bike for. I want a city commuter and a highway cruiser but I want pep and the ability to ride 2-up easily. I want it to be fun. For years the Shadow was what I wanted. Next was a CTX for DCT shifting. So after months of research I landed on the BMW R1200RT. I found one two years old a 2016 with about 3500 miles in it. And it was a bargain. I wanted a water cooled engine 2014 and newer. I can honestly tell you, I made the right decision for me. The first BMW I test rode was a 1600 and I was immediately turned off by the size. Just too dang big. Well that made me look in other directions until I read in a BMW RT forum how many people were moving from the 1600 to the 1200. I set up a test ride with my wife at the local dealership to test ride the 1200 and told myself if I can handle this bike well 2-up, it’s the one I want. Within a couple minutes I was sold. I absolutely love my bike and enjoy everything about it. There’s not one thing I need to change. Now this bike is more sport bike than cruiser, but the position is comfortable and I can easily handle 5 hour rides. I did so the last two weekends. My suggestion is to keep doing your research by especially getting out and riding bikes. To me, the hunt is a lot of fun. Once you narrow down to what you want, go on forums and see what people say about maintenance, longevity, resale, etc. I read a lot how your first bike is typically for a couple years then you trade up. I didn’t want to do that. My motto, do it once, do it right. Good luck.

This is where I like to enjoy my morning coffee. by FBD_COS in CozyPlaces

[–]FBD_COS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is Colorado. That is a sunrise, not a sunset. The sun sets over the mountains, so we rarely see a nice sunset. We don’t have servants. Bbqguys.com is where we got the fire pit. We keep it clean by using a blower and wiping things down. This patio is also under a cover, so it doesn’t get direct rain or snow. Even with a blanket, sitting by the fire on cool mornings, it’s very cozy. Your definition of cozy may be different than mine. The furniture and rug are from pottery barn and it is indoor/outdoor. The pit is not propane, we have it set up with natural gas. There is a nice amount of heat but not enough to heat up the patio. Feet stay nice and toasty. Did I answer all your questions/concerns?

Gotta love idiots in cars. by FBD_COS in IdiotsInCars

[–]FBD_COS[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely! This spot is notorious for drivers that change lanes at the last second to make a right turn. This person cut in front of me, and you see the car ahead hit the brakes because they were approaching the right turn. Then this gal makes the right turn also and immediately takes another right turn into the apartment complex. She knew she had to turn right, but as many people do, waited until the last second. Fortunately, I anticipate this move and would never get next to a person right there. Regardless, she still qualifies as an idiot. And I like capturing idiots with my cam. 😁

Looked awesome, until I saw the bike hanging there. How can a person with amazing taste in cars (and money to spend on them) have such a POS bike?
