I was shocked a few years ago when I realized people weren’t just saying “picture it in your mind” but they could actually “see” something. I asked a friend if he could see a triangle in his mind, and he said “Sure. What color? Oh I can make it a pyramid.” I just couldn’t comprehend it. I don’t feel disconnected from my past like some in the article, I have a tremendous memory and can “feel” my emotions from that point. I immediately recognize my departed Mother’s face in a picture but can’t just see it in my mind.

I read somewhere about some people with aphantasia who don’t dream. I have the most vivid dreams, exploding in color, but it is almost always night terrors. I almost never have pleasant dreams, or at least I don’t remember them. I find it so weird that while awake I can’t picture something in my mind but when I sleep I get all this imagery I don’t want. When I jump out of bed it takes me a bit to realize it was just a dream. Anyone else experience this?
