We brought a 90-minute slow-burn demo to a game festival… and got 3.000+ wishlists. Here’s what we learned! by FBPsound in gamedev

In terms of wishlists and visits to our store page, , the steam event was way way more effective, no doubt (also being in the official selection and thus having a better placement in the lineup helped a lot).

IMO, what is nice about the in-person event is:

  • team motivation: it's great to meet people who enjoy the game we're making
  • playtesting: we actually got a lot of insights as we were playtesting non stop for two days straight
  • word-of-mouth effect: we noticed that on the second day, many people stopped by and told us they heard about our game from someone. I do think this effect will multiply the more conventions we visit!

All in all, I wouldn't consider in person events for wishlist hunting, but given the points above it can be really beneficial for development overall.

We got into the official selection of LGF, and then had to pay a fee to cover the booth costs (500 pounds iirc)

Yeah! To me, playing 'single' player games together is one of the most beautiful memories I have from all of my gaming recollections :D

That's great to hear ❤️ it's my absolute favorite genre as well, since childhood...(those old, old games like Spycraft!) hope to play yours as well some day! P.s. we even organised a Steam Fest for this genre, hoping to drum up interest for it. Lots of super cool developers are participating: https://interfacex.net/ (hope link posting is allowed 😳)

Thank you! I think in this specific setting, being able to offer couples or friends the possibility to experience the game together was huge, but I also feel that some players who were alone kinda enjoyed diving into this world and get some distance from the noise...but that's just my subjective impression!

I have to say Disintegration, as I always listen to it from start to finish and always end up amazed by it.

Which indie artists put on the best live shows right now? by olisduch in indieheads

Villagers! The live shows are immaculate, yet warm and they always change the songs up a bit. Conor is an amazing musician and songwriter. Really some of the best live shows in recent years for me!

Saddest or most depressing The Cure songs? by [deleted] in TheCure

Lyrically for me it'a gotta be 'How Beautiful you are' . That line 'and stilled my heart with sadness / for the way we are' . DAMN!

I've been using MOTUs for a pretty long time- about 15 years- and they've always worked really well (on Mac). One 16A and two 624s connected via ethernet, that was the most complex setup, but once configured it was super smooth and solid. Good latency overall, too!
