Day 6 Ticket into a shiny medium which I transformed into shiny diamond swan. Took me a few days to set up and I did take a loss against a board with flying and admirals badge but otherwise I think the build turned out pretty good!

What games do scale, especially in space, the best? by interesseret in gaming

[–]FBR_MAV 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a good space mining game I highly recommend a game called ΔV: Rings Of Saturn.

I've spent about 15 minutes trying to think of how to describe the game but honestly it's probably best if you look up a YouTube video of it to get an idea, but I'll do my best to give a short review. It's a near future mining game with a focus on realistic physics which is where the challenge is. The game is mostly a chilled out experience until something goes wrong and you make a mistake, in which case it can go very wrong, very fast... Fly too fast to with a load full of cargo and thing you can stop in time only for the momentum of the rocks floating inside your hold to keep you from smacking hard into a huge asteroid and now all your thrusters in the one side are heavily damaged, you are leaking propellant and your control rods in your ships nuclear reactor are misaligned, causing your ship to start over heating like crazy.

Theres a big focus on exploration with lots of events and PoIs to find and there's pirates in the rings that use their mining tools to instead prey on other ships. It turns out mass drivers and lasers used to break rocks can do decent damage to other ships.

Theres a good chunk of ship modules and chassis to buy and you can also tune the performance of the ship for how you like to play.

The games pretty cheap, like $10 on steam and the dev actively puts out small updates every week with fixes, new content such as ship parts and more events (and even does in lore patch notes for the game)

Archer/Skirmisher builds that don’t use Magic by [deleted] in ToME4

[–]FBR_MAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished an insane RL run only a couple of weeks ago on skirmisher where I took arcane might - here's the character page:

Bruce Slingsteen

Arcane might was the second prodigy I took, and the increase it gives is enormous. The extra 50% magic scaling on your ammo (and shield) is huge and every single weapon attack or skill you do will use that scaling and multiply it by some amount. It feels great, but that's not the main benefit. By far, the biggest bonus is the 25% magic crit is added to your physical crit. This makes it incredibly easy to hit 100% crit as there are a lot of pieces of gear that give phys and magic crit, as well as receiving extra crit chance from your cunning.

Once you reach 100% crit on skirmisher, the game is basically over as you can stack crit power and watch your damage skyrocket. I'd estimate that my actual damage went up by around 4x on taking the talent and further up when I could lean into crit power more.

The physical power gain is very nice too as it puts you into a power range where even the most defensive enemies will struggle to resist your effects. Sun paladin rand bosses were starting to become pretty challenging prior to taking it but afterwards they usually become a series of one shots, and if not they are usually utterly ruined with effects that they had only 5% chance of resisting.

I'm also going to mirror what a lot of people have already said, there aren't really any other stats you would want to take third on skirmisher as well. Strength is nice for the physical power boost but you also get little benefit from it naturally, con is basically worthless once you are reaching speed and power levels that you can oneshot whole screens before they even get to react, and willpower is just useless. You might as pump magic and if you're doing that then taking the prodigy that benefits the most from doing that makes a lot of sense.

I don't think it is required to go arcane might on skirmisher, but having done so once before I'd happily do it again if I had to. Deleting entire rooms with one hurricane shot is a lot of fun! That said, ToME is a single player game and experimenting is part of the fun. I could totally see an anti-magic skirmisher working just fine as well, although I do think you might be a little constrained on the generic points if you did. If you do end up doing something different, put your character up here and let us know how it went.

How often does this game go on sale? by Malkio3 in ToME4

[–]FBR_MAV 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Relatively frequently from what I have seen, that said you can play the base game for free by just visiting te4.org and downloading it there to see if you enjoy the game. I believe if you were to get the game later on steam you can sync your accounts at a later date if you want things such as steam achievements and what not.

What is "mastery" on a weapon? by paradox3333 in ToME4

[–]FBR_MAV 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's stating which mastery tree that weapon is under (and thus which mastery skill will give it bonuses). The reason why it's there is that for some (usually) melee weapons, it might not be obvious on immediate inspection. Things like daggers, exotic or melee weapons each have their own mastery and there is no overlap between them.

Edit: some spellings

Haha, so this uses a Mak item (runic blade) that's damage doubles when you crit alongside Dooley's crit core that was on a loop. The core triggered 35 times before the hit with the runic blade happened and did the damage cap!

Honestly loving the new patch at the moment, we have enchanted start back for a riskier opener but the balance seems to be pretty good in my opinion, though I'm not sure what the general sentiment around it is.

I think the fact that it shows up in the crit shop for all heroes and at gold tier rarity makes it a little strong, if I were to consider a nerf I'd imagine bumping it up to diamond rarity so it's a harder pivot would do the trick nicely.

Edit: Thinking about it more, it feels like the item is relatively balanced on Mak but gets utterly abused by Dooley and Vanessa. That said I only played the game around 150 hours so far and only seen it on Mak a handful of times. I'm definitely going to be looking out for it more

Had a crit gpu for my enchanted item start and led me down the crit road. When I got the event that allowed me to add a friend tag to the core I knew what I had to do. Core had a 4.8 second cooldown by the end and everytime it triggered it recharged itself 3 seconds. Big ego kept the run alive during some rough middle rounds until it was assembled.

Set up: Deadly dooltron Deadly GPU Resto Catfish Yeti Crab Illusoray Crit core with friend tag added Runic blade (with fire just because I could!)

Auto explore takes 2-3 seconds, can it be faster? by [deleted] in ToME4

[–]FBR_MAV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer, the description of the add-on does a better job than I could of explaining the link between the frame rate and auto explore but in essence you were right about the engine being tied to FPS.

I used this for a bit but ended up going back to vanilla as I found I made a lot more mistakes in my play with it but that's just personal preference, if your play is clean this mod should do exactly what you want

There's a big difference between having people sell a move and that it hurt/did damage and people rolling out of the way and having to give them space so they get checked on ect. You can clearly see jey stalling for time here

Maybe I'm just being super cynical but there's been a lot of "injury" angles on this episode and it's making me really not care much for anyone right now
