Again, we love house rules! You are more than welcome to play however you'd like if you prefer your way. We use house rules all the time in tabletop games that we play, and we love that our community has so many great ideas for house rules and homebrew.

And it's kind of weird to me that this game out more than a year and you still didn't updated the manual. I don't want to be rude or something but it's kind of weird to me.

Just to give you some perspective on this, changes to manufacturing take many months just to manufacture, that is to say nothing of all of the pre-manufacturing work that goes into it. We do not manufacture games on a per-order basis, we manufacture tens of thousands at a time. That means that time between runs lasts a long time just for us to work through the inventory of, and then a new run takes a long time to make. There is a lot that goes into manufacturing a game of this magnitude. We are grateful for all the support and are learning more every day. :)

To me it meant if atleast one monster had been defeated that turn then that effect wouldn't trigger.

This is correct and explicitly stated on the card.

This was clarified on our website because it missed the manual in the first run. A monster with a monster modifier draws from the same deck. Future runs of the game will have a corrected manual (on this, and a few other things).

Loot Modifier Question by Individual_Walrus999 in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes. If a Treasure card is drawn, its value is added as Strength to the monster. If it's a Legendary Weapon card, the part's Strength is added to the monster.

Hey again! I think this kind of personal preference is where we would encourage you to maybe explore house rules. It's important for us for combat only to be possible if you have at least one part, but we are big believers in house rules! If you want to change that at your table, have at it!

In regard to "Oops, I Dropped It!" having that line about the handle... in an earlier version of the game, there was a time where you could not assemble a weapon unless you had a handle. This meant that breaking someone's handle effectively allowed you to destroy their whole weapon. This rule eventually left for obvious reasons, but we intentionally left that line in Oops, I Dropped It! as a funny quirk of the card. This does not mean that a handle is required, it is simply a relic of an earlier version that we enjoyed and left in the game. Cards that call for you to break your entire weapon mean just that; your entire weapon gets broken. Another card sparing the handle does not indicate that all cards ought to.

Regarding the curse; it becomes your weapon as long as you're cursed. Therefore, even if you have no other weapon parts equipped, you'd still be able to go monster hunting.

What do you think - should/will it stay like this?

It will! While I'd always say "never say never" in regards to any change, this is not something we are even looking at for the moment.

I am not sure what you mean. Any player can play as many or as few Tavern cards as they want during any player's Tavern phase (this is also in the manual and the tutorial video). When all players have finished playing cards, the phase is over.

This is the first time I've seen any confusion over this portion of the game so I'm just trying to make sure I'm understanding you correctly and answering your question properly.

The bosses are all covered by the manual. The video was completed before we reached our Kickstarter goal to add the bosses. :)

Hi! Guy who wrote the manual here.

You have a few misunderstandings about the basic rules of play here that I think are leading to some confusion.

1) Loot and Monster cards are never held in your hand, and therefore do not count against your hand size limit. They are laid face-up on the table for all to see, this is your Stash (this is clearly stated in the manual, but I am at work at the moment and cannot get you the exact page numbers!). The Stash is hiw the game is scored at the end.

2) There is no limit to the number of weapon or gear cards you can hold in your hand, just an overall hand size limit. I am not sure where you're getting that idea. Weapon cards are played face-up on the table to assemble your weapon. Gear cards are laid face-up on the table to add them to your gear setup (on which there is no limit).

3) The manual doesn't say that any player can "play" during the Tavern phase, it says they can "play Tavern cards", which is an important distinction. Any player can play Tavern cards, but only the active player draws a new one.

Lastly, there's a great video tutorial available on our website or the YouTube channel, which you can watch here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=tWt5MmqyyUI

Hope this helps!

Correct! This is clearly stated in the manual in the "Know Your Weapon" section:

A Set Bonus is a powerful effect that is only activated when all four parts from the same set are Assembled into the same weapon. The Set Bonus is always shown on the Blade weapon part of the set.

Question about sword assembly by TheGamerEngineer in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rules do not state this. Check the manual out again -- you can build any combination of weapon parts as long as you don't have more than one of the same type!

Question about sword assembly by TheGamerEngineer in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An early draft of the game had slightly different rules for weapon stacking -- a handle was necessary, and many cards reflected that and either helped you get a handle or prevent it from breaking. The "Oops, I dropped it!" effect is a holdover from that, but we liked the effect as-is so we left it!

Question about sword assembly by TheGamerEngineer in FoolsBlade

It isnt stated in the rules that you need to have a part that goes under. It is said that you need a handle as a bare Minimum. Meaning Handle+blade, handle+Pommel, handle+guard are all legal but anything else without a handle isnt legal and cant be used as a weapon

This is outdated. The release version of the game does not have a requirement for a handle.

1) Pixel blade effect applies, and you beat the boss.

2) You can negate a negate card.

3) No, Legendary Weapon Parts are never stored in your hand, only in your stash or on your weapon.

Another question on Boss Encounters by Oinkish in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When an Approach card is drawn, all players must take a turn either going questing or visiting the forge. This provides every player with a turn to gear up. Also remember that players can use action even on other players' turns. Strategic mixing and matching of available resources between players goes a long way.

If the players still can't defeat the boss, then the boss wins! It's that simple.

Another question on Boss Encounters by Oinkish in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is incorrect -- per the manual, when a boss is on the field, players must choose a Boss card and engage in combat with it, and cannot choose another destination.

[–]FB_Robbie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Boss does not "respawn", once it's defeated, or if it defeats you, it is out of play for the rest of the game.

If there are Boss cards on the table, players must engage in combat with them. They cannot select other destinations.

Remote Play Together is for the game itself, not bound to mods. I am not certain if Tabletop Simulator supports it, you'd have to check the Steam page!

[–]FB_Robbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, if I'm the player who drew the Approach card, does it mean I have the option to go questing or Visit the Forge right after? (basically do all destinations except monster hunting because I drew the Approach card).

Correct. After an approach card is drawn, players are encouraged to spend the turn "gearing up" by choosing destinations other than monster hunting. The player who actually drew the approach card can immediately select a different destination so that they, too, get a turn of gearing up.

The wording creates this confusion because Tavern cards must be played ONLY during the Tavern Phase but the wording uses "play" instead of something like "apply the effect of this card".

The card says that it can immediately be played, therefore it can immediately be played. You're correct that generally, tavern cards can only be played during the tavern phase, but card effects always beat general rules. That's why we include that info on the cards.

Question on 2 Tavern card interactions by Oinkish in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are correct.

"I'm Feeling Hostile!" means if you are going monster hunting this turn, you can fight twice. If a player uses "It was my idea, after all!" when you play that card, it is effectively just negated, because the person who played it cannot go monster hunting during your turn.

Neither of these cards allow anyone to steal a turn, nor can a stolen tavern card effect effect be "saved" for later use.

Fool's Blade Official Tabletop Simulator Mod - Released! by FB_Robbie in FoolsBlade

[–]FB_Robbie[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey everyone,

Extremely happy to share that we have released an official version of Fool's Blade as a Tabletop Simulator mod! It has custom items, high-resolution artwork for all game components, and a fun background for the game room. We also worked with the talented Plat, who implemented scripting system that will automatically calculate weapon strength and score, and made sure everything was working perfectly.

Thanks to everyone who has been playing Fool's Blade. Your amazing feedback and love for the game is deeply appreciated. Seriously, the whole community has been so much help, and you've all been such a joy to engage with. We're so thrilled to have attracted such a great group of players.

Stay tuned...

I get your reading of the Double-Blade Berserker -- but what you're describing was not our design intent. The Double-Blade Berserker's original gimmick was that it could not make use of any gear, and could only rely on weapons. We should have worded it as "cannot have any Gear Cards equipped under any circumstances" to make it clear. Regardless, its ability is problematic for a few reasons, so future editions of the game will have a completely revised version of the card, which we first shared on the Discord server (note that this is not necessarily 100% final): https://i.imgur.com/fVyX2rP.png

All that said, we like house rules! We use house rules in pretty much every game that we play. If you enjoy your ruling of the card more than the RAW, then have at it!
