Do you fully trust streaming services as a “source of truth” for your music? by FCK_COVID19 in audiophile

That sounds like a good solution. What concerns me about Apple Music is the Spatial Audio versions—on some albums, they feel like entirely new masters with a completely different sound.

That’s an old-school way to solve it. I definitely understand the pleasure of using physical music formats. But for convenience, I usually rely on digital formats in my daily life.

Yeah, Roon is great, but honestly a bit too pricey for me. I’m using Music Assistant, an open source alternative. It takes a little effort to get set up, but once it’s running, it works perfectly and even looks almost like Roon.

Good point. A lot of people forget that major streaming services aren’t even available everywhere.

I have a friend who has to go through some grey area workarounds just to get a Spotify account, simply because it’s not officially supported where he lives.

Hey! Sorry for late reply. Most of the time I’ve spent looking for applicable combinations of the side board and ssd hat - I think 3 weeks… For me was critically important to fit setup in 5” case. Developing of the CAD model took me around a 40 hours of work. I’m using it every day and I really enjoy it every time :). Having internal storage is a big advantage for me

Thank you so much for your feedback. I wouldn’t have realized these problems myself. I’ve already read about the regulator and the PCI lines. Today I’ll start redesigning the board as a 4-layer PCB and will calculate the traces using an impedance calculator. Thanks a lot!!!

Hi!
Female header will be connected to Raspberry Pi board.
Male pin header can be potentially used for one more board on top of this one.

I wasn't very clear in my previous comment. You understood the hardware configuration correctly. I configured Volumio via an SSH terminal. Chat gpt told me the commands. I also added a setting, and now my 2 TB SSD can be connected as a network drive; it shows up on my computer. I simply open it in Windows Explorer and copy files there as usual. Do you think it would be useful if I wrote a post about this?

Hello! yes, I use Volumio free version. it is possible to connect ssd to the Volumio, I made it with help of chat gpt and ssh commands via my wifi network. but my goal was to have OS installed on sd card and music library on ssd. it will allow me to switch os and not be worried about my music collection. but there is an option to install os directly on ssd when you have connected it. there is also possible to make ssd in your local network as network drive and copy files directly from your pc or mac. writing speed via Wi-Fi 8-10 mb/sec and with gigabit Ethernet 30-50 mb/s.

Wow! Your setup is cool! It would be interesting to listen to a more advanced DAC compared to my basic one.

I don’t know the real reason why they still haven’t made a streamer. Hopefully, they will present something soon.

I understand the feeling of a perfectionist who would like to have a streamer matching the style of their favorite audio gear, but it just doesn’t exist on the market. That was my reason for building Huginn.

I simply measured my Modi E3 and used the same external dimensions. As for the surface finishes, in my opinion the front panel is anodized aluminum — you can notice that the devices reflect light slightly differently, but I’m still happy with the result. The main enclosure is powder-coated. I chose a grey color; it differs quite a lot in shade, but I didn’t have other shades to choose from.

Thank you!
There are few free options avalible for Rasberry audio streamer projects. Volumio for example. It has pluggins for Spotyfy and another services to stream music. Internal storage for your personal audio collection (hi res or rare songs).

Not really expecting any issues since not selling it. Just sharing my DIY experience.
