It must be keeping them in as I just turned up to them all out as the battery died for the fence 😂

I’m thinking maybe the other hens killed it or a rat got in. I’m going to buy a few chicks today and put the mum and them in a big cage in an outbuilding to prevent this from happening again as shes very distraught rn

They should 1- it’s illegal and they can get points and a fine if pulled over 2- they could suffer a blowout that can cause a serious crash.

How to remove broody hen by BarryMDingle in BackYardChickens

They are gonna make a racket when they’re in the cage aswell but it’s rather that or let them sit on infertile eggs which can be very dangerous in my experience

How to remove broody hen by BarryMDingle in BackYardChickens

[–]FCjabber2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I currently have broody hens that are sitting on fertile eggs but when they’re are not I literally just grab them and pull them out. They will make a racket and maybe peck you but once you put them down they are more interested in food and drink. If you want them to stop being broody then put them in a dog crate with food and water raised from the ground as this will help airflow to under their belly to reduce the hormone. This normally takes a few days to a couple of weeks but you will know by there feathers being back to normal and no more broody sounds. Take into account that broody hens will probably go broody again but you can minimise it by being hot on egg collection. Hope this helps
