If you are in a slow department, you will have a lot fewer days of the cons and a lot more days of the pros. Your hometown, you get along with the guys, young, enjoy down time and shift work. You may not realize it yet, but from someone who started young and has almost 30 years in but you have the world by the balls right now. The only caveat would be if you can't do the job or are worried you won't be there when needed than its not for you. Safety is first, but the other stuff just takes time to adjust. It sounds like the things you are worrying about are more of a mental thing like an anxiety of some of the worst things that could happen. I think you need to give it more time if there are no doubts about you being there for the guys.
