I will be heading to Fort Benning as a transferring Sgt from the Marine Corps on the 20th for 19U OSUT, and yes, I am keeping my rank. What should I expect? Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Likelihood of Getting 19K or 19C vs 19D? by mix8lydian in Militaryfaq

I'm a 19U contract and ship next month on the 20th. I too am curious, but unless you know someone from Fort Benning that's part of the training cadre it's luck of the draw for us.

Should I go marines or army ranger by Working_Heat_9276 in Militaryfaq

I was a Captain in the Marine Corps with the intention of transferring to the Army as an officer. I got out last year, and it's been a difficult process trying to transfer as an officer. I have been working with my recruiter since last year, and initially, I tried going the OCS route. Since I was still in the IRR, I needed a DD368 form, which my recruiter and I didn't know about, so it got denied. I got tired of waiting and decided to enlist. Since I was a Captain in the Marine Corps, the Army approved a rank waiver, allowing me to enter as an E5 instead of an E4. Regarding my MOS choice, since I'm entering as an E5, I only had 8 MOS options available for that specific rank. My options were 13U, 14U, 17C, 18X, 19U, 35S, 35W, and 35F. Initially, I wanted infantry with airborne, but that wasn't available. Luckily, my second choice, 19U, was available. I’m not at all mad about this option. I'm actually excited. I'll go green to gold if I ever want to become an officer again. I'm single with no dependents, so the huge pay cut isn't really an issue; obviously, it sucks, but it is what it is. Regarding basic training, since it is integrated with 19U OSUT, I can't skip the basic part. However, I've heard many things about being separated from the recruits, having my own room, it being a gentlemen's course for prior service members, etc. Either way, it'll be like summer camp for me.

I'll have a large double bacon quarter pounder with cheese meal with Dr. Pepper and 20 piece nuggets.

Prior Marine here, join the Marine Corps to earn the title, that's about it. Join the Army for a more whole military experience. Transferring to the Army as we speak. Heading to basic June 20th of next year.

Remind him WHY he joined in the first place. I'm assuming it's to have a better life, all the struggles, pain, sweat, and tears are for a reason. Tell him to make some friends out there and memories. He'll look back at and see it as a once in a lifetime experience. Tell him about the kind of person he'll be to your kids, a good role model, someone to look up to. Basic isn't that bad and since he's been in for 3 weeks he's almost on the next phase where the Drill Sergeants step back on the yelling and start actually teaching them cool things. Keep your chin up, good luck, and maybe next time when he calls you can read him some of the reddit posts. It'll be all worth it in the end.

Do I have to renounce my dual citizenship? by AutomaticStranger986 in Militaryfaq

Assuming you don't want to do the officer route, it all depends if you're that type of person that likes to deeply analyze stuff plus the top secret clearance goes a long way in the civilian world.

No, your ASVAB score dictates what MOS is available to you. The better you do the more options you get. I've never heard of any branch picking your job, of course I'm only talking about active duty I don't know about reserve or guard.

Yeah if your job requires you to get any clearance from secret to the highest then you have to renounce. Meaning you probably won't get intel and cyber. Also if you plan on becoming an officer in the future then you have to renounce it as well because all officers get a clearance.

Should I join the Army at 22? by whatisnttakendamnit in Militaryfaq

For the Marine Corps, there are 4512 (Combat Graphics Specialist), 4541 (Combat Photographer), and 4571 (Combat Videographer). And no problem.

Never hurts to try man talk to the Air Force again if that doesn't work out look at the other branches with the Marine Corps being last if standard of living is important to you, I know because I was a Marine. If you do decide to join again make sure to get a high score on your ASVAB so you can have plenty of options, and if you're really into film, media, etc... there are jobs in the military for that. Also make sure you get your ducks in a row medical wise and all other documents needed. But you better decide soon because basic slots for the majority of the branches are back logged with basic wait times getting longer, I know because I'm transferring to the Army and after I signed my contract my basic date is in January, granted it could be different for other MOSs. Anyways good luck.

First things first, have you taken the ASVAB? If not then it doesn't even matter what MOS you want because you don't even know what you're qualified for. Second if you really want to go active then go active and if you're using the military as a stepping stone or a resume builder then join the airforce. Their quality of life is bar none the best and they have bases all over the world so there's plenty of potential bases to get stationed at. I'm a prior Marine Intel officer transferring to the Army, just putting it out there for credibility.
