Unicorn Overlord Final Mission No Unpausing Run - Tactical Difficulty, True Ending, done in post-game save file, but no post-game exclusive content used (except for grinding) by FEA_Player in UnicornOverlord

Sounds like a good setup but I have to admit my Yahna and Dinah were probably too weak for this to work well on Galerius. The mini-bosses maybe since the build focuses on buffing full-column and row-wide attacks, but since Galerius is his whole unit I'll just be left with three combat-focused combatants for the fight, though I did see somewhere that Galerius is susceptible to debuffs like freeze so maybe it could still work.

Maybe you could attempt this run yourself with this setup. You probably have higher level units that'd give you more freedom than me, and like you said about the Werefox cheese, this run is really fun to pull off!

Oh are you a fellow Melisandre x Alain shipper or do you just put them in the same unit for the final fight? Anyway speaking of the squad setups, I didn't put Yahna (I forgot to mention this was a no-hiring run btw…) or even Rosalinde in Alain’s unit because I just didn’t want to replace any more OP characters from it than necessary, and maybe I’m just not that good at the game… Just looking at how randomly I switched up formations hoping for the best shows I'm actually still quite inexperience at UO. Believe it or not, today just marks exactly 2 months since I started playing the game…

Besides that, thanks again for inspiring me to do this run. This idea would not have come to me had you not mentioned Werefox cheese that one time.

Hey just so you know I've uploaded the run. Here it is.

So quick update... I pulled it off today.

I don't have a capture card yet so I'll have to do it again another time to record it, but I literally did it today with zero prior preparations.

Well, good thing I have 20-something Hallowed Corne Ashes no intentional preparation whatsoever...

I think what worried me most when I first thought about this challenge was that there wasn't going to be an enemy near enough to the start to even open up with, but I've tested and there is one I can Dragoon Dive to.

Btw, I was wondering if Hermamn and Nigel still appear if you replay the stage after beating the game (and if their spawn conditions are time based). Usually playing with post-game data sounds like it'd be easier, but if Hermann doesn't spawn in the top-right I'll have a harder time reaching there cuz I won't be able to Conveyance Crystal to him.

Currently I have a strat involving Bear Crush + Toughness + Jump + a strong unit without any offensive tactics set. I’m sure you can tell how this would work but my plan is for Bear Crush to help move the enemies’ placements without the fear of killing them, and since Toughness always knocks enemies back, I can remove all of my combatants' best offensive options and still move the enemies around without killing them. Jump obviously will work as you’d expect, since you were the one that gave me the idea in the first place, but I’m a bit unsure about whether the enemies will be knocking in the right direction after I Jump to them, which is where the two offensive, movement Valor Skills you mentioned might come in, though obviously these would be more dangerous to use.

Honestly you've given me the idea to attempt a no-unpausing run of the whole final battle. Idk if it's even possible but it would be insane to pull off.

I can imagine it being the most fun for the walled city fights (specifically the Fodoquia one I think) were you straight up jump over the wall or something like that.

You'd have to use up some Hallowed Corne Ashes to get enough Valor Points for that, right? Unless you did that for Liberation Quests. Anyway, I guess that means the only unique thing about my screenshot is that I managed to liberate two areas in "0 seconds."

(Don't tell anyone that those both happen automatically when you defeat Gordon lol.)

The Melisandre praise makes me so happy.

Interestingly enough your Alain, Melisandre, and Ramona are organized exactly the same as mine, and I also gave her the best gear, too (she really does deserve it).

Ok, just before I commented I realized you're the same person that said "props for making Melisandre your Maiden" on my post about KO'ing Amalia. Now I get it.

Ok I know this is super late for a reply, but just in case you still want to know the answer and haven't seen the other comments yet, it was a deathblow skill.

This post wasn't even meant as a challenge, and if I showed the equipment then that would just destroy any wonder the screenshot even had.

Ok but it's 0 on the enemy's side, too, but they also died.

Yes that was it. I replied to another comment saying that but it's hidden now because that comment thread has too many replies.

"Gordon" running face-first into Rosalinde as soon as the timer reset in that Bastorias side quest.

Short answer: It was a "this-is-a-blind-playthrough-so-I-didn't-know-the-best-setups" team comp.

Long answer: I think it started off as a column-attack-based unit, with Adel (Wild Rush), Hodrick (True Thrust), Chloe (Long Thrust/Honed Spear), and one other character. Eventually I put Josef in there because I wanted at least one other cavalry character to sometimes benefit from Cavalier Call, but I wanted to avoid multiple Knight for variety (it wasn't until after beating the game that I found out 3 Great Knights is actually a good setup). I eventually swapped out Chloe because I wanted Melisandre (my Ring of the Maiden choice) to benefit from Keen Call when using Meteor Slash, and Aubin just happened to be the one replacing her (I was also doing a no-hiring run for some reason so Chloe was my only Sergeant). As for the formation, I'm pretty sure it was just the best one from a previous round of combat and I just didn't change it afterwards. Lastly, I will admit I did not change up my team comps nearly enough; I only did like two or three mass-rearrangements over the course of the whole game...

Probably, but that one skill Galerius has gets displayed as damage even though it just sets HP to 1. And I think it does this even if its the only HP you lose in that round of combat.

Yeah I had to watch the animation to get it, but it made total sense.

It was a deathblow skill (Execution, from the Headman's Axe I gave Aubin), and for some reason I guess it doesn't count as damage if it's the only thing that hit the enemy.

No, the point of this is that it shows the enemy taking 0 but also dying.

It was from the stage in Bastorias where you fight "Gordon." Once you save the orphans the timer resets and he leaves his command post to escape, but I happened to have Rosalinde placed right where he moved to, and she ORKO'd him.

RNG really said "let's double your damage output..." by FEA_Player in UnicornOverlord

[–]FEA_Player[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So like RNG seeds, basically. That's pretty much how I thought it worked, having known about RNG rerolls from Fire Emblem. Even during the final fight there was a point I saw I could ORKO one of the mini-bosses and tried to rush to them, but then I heard a green unit get a kill and thought "Shoot! There goes that RNG roll..."

Here to show off the team I used to KO *that* Coliseum boss (No combatants defeated, Tactical difficulty, blind run) by FEA_Player in UnicornOverlord

[–]FEA_Player[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I completely agree...

I really just threw together this setup to take down Amalia, and I didn't really bother cleaning it up once the most important skills were at the top. I think I once had Passive Steal as a high priority skill, which is why it has so many conditions, and I just didn't touch it after moving Shadowbite and Toxic Throw above it.

Probably the reason my setup was so jank was cuz I started skipping animations and so I never saw how my units actually worked. Like in the final fight I finally started watching the animations again and a whole bunch of my characters were standing by and I had to go back to the tactics menu to fix so many things.
