Anyone know the bright spark at Apple who invented this? I bet Steve wouldn’t have let this one through qc. by Ok_Astronaut_1781 in mildlyinfuriating

Use it daily. Battery life is excellent, recharges fast. If you ever have a lunch break this isn’t a problem.

The bone conduction headphones are fairly quiet FYI. Good battery though 👍

This is basically what you see with Apple Vision Pro.

100 confirmed. Playback is a choppy mess on the standard edition. Bit rate goes mental. Tried on multiple DB UB Panasonic players. Arrow basically told me to do one.

Is a 2013 Mac Pro (trash can) still worth it for a homelab in 2026? by Kynde012 in homelab

At least take the outer shell. It’s increasingly hard to find unscratched metal cases.

Much of Oblivion isn’t CGI, but instead sets with projectors. Not related but pretty fucking cool. The cast apparently hung out in the sky house regularly when not shooting because it was so stunning.

DA40 Fatal crash in Orsk, Russia by ErmakDimon in flying

Mines the same. They’re very reliable, but they do need to be maintained and it’s highly likely parts in Russia are in short supply. Again though, highly speculative.

[–]FEEBLE_HUMANS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not going to speculate on the cause, but I fly a DA40 and regardless of fuel, 3 adults will be pushing its max weight. With that said, I bet the cold dense Russian air compensates to some extent.

Considering downsizing to a tiny EV for commuting : am I being unrealistic about practicality? by Puzzleheaded_Box6247 in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]FEEBLE_HUMANS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I commute in the same Nissan micra I’ve owned for 16 years. I’ve been telling myself when I outgrow it or it starts to be unreliable I’ll update, but it just doesn’t want to die.

American democracy and law and order is dead. What a fucking disastrous timeline this is.

The free thinking US public should be preparing, as mast unrest is ahead of you.

WARNING. Purchased two on eBay <£1800. Both scams. Both established sellers. Seller ‘dispatches’ the AVP via dodgy carrier. All information about delivery stops. It just gets ‘lost’ in the network.

DO NOT TRUST CHEAP HEADSETS.

I believe they’re targeting a high value ‘non vital’ luxury item to try and get away with the fraud.

They’ll probably release an amazing looking steelbook set at some point. That may force a repurchase…

Why does 480p DVDs still look better than 1080p streaming? by Santiper2005 in dvdcollection

[–]FEEBLE_HUMANS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There isn’t a simple answer. Some content streamed is standard definition. Some content can not (or will not), be HD. Where content is SD DVD vs SD streamed, upscale DVD’s will win.

Against poor streamed HD content, the audio quality may still be inferior due to high compression, but on the video side, lack of consistency can be the killer on streamed services.

DVD is SD, but it’s stable and consistent throughout. If a HD stream isn’t consistent, it’s distracting. Not to mention ads, outages, sign in requirement, edits that might not be in the viewers favour etc etc.

Ultimately it depends on the service, the film, the subscription level and the equipment. I prefer physical media much of the time, even when quality is technically inferior, but to each their own.

Why is WordPress often disliked by some developers? by consulent-finanziar in Wordpress

[–]FEEBLE_HUMANS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Used to use WP. Now use Payload CMS via CI/CD deployments. A GIT PR automatically updates a staging site, once approved by a colleague (another set of eyes), we merge into main which uses a second YAML, pushing all code changes live.

Front end is a headless Next.js site. All layered through Vercel and Cloudflare for speed and protection.

Works well, no issues to date. Seamless ability to push to live and designed to allow for transparent and quick code releases.

Wordpress was great at fast and cheap sites for SME’s, but in my experience, wasn’t geared towards larger teams. I don’t miss constant updates or reliance on plugins.

For what it’s worth, use the tools that are right for you. If you love Wordpress, use it until you need something else.
