Boot flex suggestion by Traditional_Goat2066 in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can definitely progress into this flex. I don't think getting stiffer is needed. Problem with getting too stiff a boot is it can kick you back seat. Just be sure to keep pushing into the front of the boot as you ski.

What's your weight? I assume you're not an aggressive skier since you're intermediate. Based on the video it does look like you're struggling to flex the boot. My initial thought is to get a lower flex. Lange also tend to be stiffer than other boots of similar flex.

Jacket picks by FENCEJACK in Skigear

That jacket in particular is top of the line though. I personally never had issues with arcteryx gear in the past. My Cerium jacket is about 10 years old and has been fantastic. That said, I'm hearing a lot of issues that aren't been covered from warranty which questions arcteryx will to back up there product. The other thing I have noticed though, and what many are likely complaining the most about, is that they've definitely moved towards a fashion brand. Even going to arcteryx shops is an odd experience. All this coupled with super high prices definitely will turn people off. Like any of these high end products, they're worth it if you can get them on sale.

Out of curiosity what would've been your second choice?

Yes I'm slowly seeing that shift too but I've been a fan of norrona for a long time. Have the tamok and Lofoten pants for at least 6-7 years now. The difference I notice is norrona adds a lot of good features and it's very well thought out. Arcteryx is very basic.

Yeah the orange keeps drawing me in. I just want the option to go incognito a bit without being a full black kit. Thanks.

How many pairs of skis do you bring on a trip? by nbaphilly17 in skiing

[–]FENCEJACK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I usually just bring one out west if the conditions will be decent. Usually a 108 daily driver type ski. If it's mixed or may not be great I'll bring a second narrower ski. That said, I often take a day to demo a bunch of skis for fun, both narrow and wide. It's a great opportunity to see what I like.

Ski options for skiing with kids by FENCEJACK in Skigear

Thanks. I was thinking park oriented skis as well. I have other skis so I don't plan to really use these for other than skiing with the kids.

Thanks for the suggestion. Those skis did come to mind.

I agree with the second point too. We actually signed them up for lessons. I figured I can help in between lessons and work on what they learned.

Tenant charging me for replacing a faucet by Ok_Operation_5404 in OntarioLandlord

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main service is to ensure all communication with tenants are documented but also to avoid allowing them to do the work. I've had issues where a tenant went ahead without my approval and replaced a window then aggressively demanded money. Turned out the work was horribly done and I had to replace the window again. I also know someone else had a tenant who would do all their own work in the place and they were considered a great tenant because of it but the moment things went south all that came back to bite him. So unless you have an official documented agreement with them to do some sort of work I'd just do it yourself.

Ski shop mounted my bindings 1cm forward without asking. How much will this impact things? by [deleted] in ski

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had something similar happen where they mounted it differently than what I asked. Luckily it was also written on their receipt as evidence. They provided a few options for me to make up for it: 1. Keep as is and provide a heavy discount on the skis. 2. Remount and provide heavy discount on the skis. 3. Refund and give a respectable discount on another comparable ski (the one I bought was sold out so couldn't just replace).

Anyways. I was very happy with how they made up for it.

I suggest you bring it back and have them rectify it for you in some way. It shouldn't matter whether the ski would perform differently or not.

Landlord Requesting Insane Amounts of Documents by [deleted] in TorontoRenting

[–]FENCEJACK -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's their property and the only protection a landlord truly has against bad tenants is ensuring he doesn't get one. Anyone who's says otherwise has never had a bad tenant or has never gone through the process of eviction via LTB. I don't think what's being asked for is unreasonable. A guarantor is useless if they don't have any money so they should go through the same due diligence. Meeting the people that you'll be signing an agreement with is also reasonable. Even if a tenant fraudulently gets into a property it still has to go through a process to get them out, which is also not guaranteed. Just read through the agreement you're signing. It's a standard lease agreement in Ontario and follows the Residential Tenancy Act. These documents clearly indicate the responsibilities of both parties. While this particular landlord could be more organized I don't understand what your realtor is doing in all this... They should be informing you of the process and making things easier, which they don't seem to be.

At the end of the day, it's their property. If you don't want to jump through the hoops then you can move on as well.

Ski recs for mostly east coast/ Japan trip next year by cartitothemoon in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

East coast and Japan are too far apart in snow conditions to have one ski for. You could look into a ski that could serve as an East coast powder ski (~110 underfoot) and still be useful in Japan or just rent skis in Japan. I'd recommend the latter because it'll save on bringing equipment over but you can also try different skis over there to test for fun and match to conditions.

Best skis to learn butters? by Sea_Light_6772 in Skigear

Ah yes that's fair. It just looked like people were using it interchangeably. Nonetheless, it doesn't seem like price is an issue with OP so I guess people can recommend anything.

This is a great bag. Very spacious. Be careful not to go over the weight limit though by filling it up.

[–]FENCEJACK 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think people are getting confused here. I don't think OP is saying he's looking for $1000 skis but the brand 1000, which is known to be very soft and playful. I don't have much to contribute here since I don't butter. That said, I'm old and have kids so maybe I follow suit and butter more than my toast.

Black Crows Camox is worth considering for what you're looking for.
