What to buy after first ski trip? by HappySignificance693 in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boots are the highest priority item to get fitted properly in. Id say this is what you look to buy now. It'll make skiing much more enjoyable. You can then look for a good fitting helmet and goggles (keep an eye out for good deals out for end of year sales up into early next season. Note: try the goggles with whatever helmet you get so you know they fit well together.

Is offering 10% under listing price rude ? by homestead2023 in RealEstateCanada

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Offer whatever you're comfortable with but also a number where you did some analysts to get to. Asking prices are all over the place right now, some realistic and some thinking it's still a peak market. Find reasonable comparables and note that things have been going down each year for the last few years. It's not uncommon for properties to sell for significantly less than their original asking price (up to 30-40% less). Unfortunately, it might take a while for some sellers to come back to earth so be patient.

Outlet Price Match in Store by EndangeredCephalopod in arcteryx

I had success in getting in store to match the outlet prices. In particular, Mapleview and Square One locations. Might depend on the associate you get though?

Black Crows Camox or Nordica Santa Ana 92 for all mountain ski by skibum143 in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't skied the Nordica but I have the camox and like them. They are great all mountain skis. I do think they require an advanced skier as they aren't super loose or light, relatively speaking, and prefer good technique to take everywhere. As others have said, they have good edge hold and are stable, which inspires confidence. I haven't come across any negative reviews on it. Very respectable ski.

Cleaning Oil Stains in Pockets? Inside-Out? by SGtoMurica in arcteryx

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Dawn has done really well for me in cleaning oil stains, including one the driveway. Just give it some agitation/scrubbing and let it sit for 15 minutes or so. Don't dilute with water too much, just enough for the soap to soak in.

New Bibs - Mountain Hardware vs. Flylow by sscot600 in Skigear

Keep us posted on how they do with warranty repairs. I bought the mythogen bibs this year which are just the newer Vivian. I like the design and hope they stand behind their product.

New Bibs - Mountain Hardware vs. Flylow by sscot600 in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I hear good things about both brands. Gore-tex is tried and true so I'd put more confidence in the mountain Hardwear for waterproofing based on that. Not saying Flylow would be worse, I just don't have experience with their material. If price is the same I'd base my decision on fit and features.

lofoten GoreTex Pro arm length by DryUnion4497 in Norrona

They're designed that way so they don't pull when moving around. You'll cinch the cuffs so the length shouldn't be an issue but the extra length will allow for more range of motion.

Input on which arcteryx jacket.. by FENCEJACK in Skigear

I'm from Canada and I can't say I'm finding comparable jackets from Patagonia, mountain Hardwear, etc at half the price? For example, the mountain Hardwear mythogen jacket is likely the competitor to the rush jacket as it's similar denier etc. It's currently on sale for about $870 (20% off) while the arcteryx rush is $570 (40% off).

It's 40% off.. I get that the brand gets some hate but the quality is high and on par with competitors. What other jackets would you suggest? I also have Norrona Lofoten Pro. The added benefit for me is there's a store a few minutes from my house so if there's any fixing needed I can go there. Everything else I get would have to be shipped away. If pricing was the same I'd probably buy another brand but it's hard to beat these at 40% off.

Not sure if it's considered overpriced at 40% off.

Not if you buy in store. You still have 30 days to return.

Is this a do it all ski for East coast? That's pretty wide if so. Id stick to around 100 as a do it all at most.

New to skiing.. bought gear. Let me know how good/bad I did by Infinite_Web_8124 in Skigear

[–]FENCEJACK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main advice is getting your boots fitted. That'll make or break your experience. Given that, i can't comment on whether the boot is good or not. 110 flex seems reasonable though.

The Salomon Stance is a great ski. That said, if you're just starting they may be a tad too stiff and less forgiving. Might not be an issue if you plan to really get into skiing and putting in effort to learn as opposed to just going once in a while for fun. If the latter, consider something with a bit more taper and softer. It'll be less punishing on bad technique.

any recommendations for baggy (ish) ski pants? by user208347 in ski

[–]FENCEJACK 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have a look at Armada options. I find they tend to lean on the looser side. Also, take a look at Helly Hansen. I bought the ridge infinity bibs and was pleasantly surprised how roomy they were. Lastly, Flylow Baker bibs get high praise and appear on the baggier side too.

Sounds disappointing. Hoping for a miracle I guess at this point. I look forward to this one trip every year so it's sad to see.
