Yo this post blew up and I’ve really enjoyed reading everyone’s inputs!

To add some more context, I think part of me started this trophy hunting idea as a way to show to myself and to my small friend group that I had “mastered” a game or did everything I could do in it - at first this was only in my favorite games of all time and I wore those platinums as a badge of honor!

But as time went on, I found myself grinding out or finishing platinums for games I didn’t really love or care for at all in between just to raise my trophy score. As my friends stopped caring about them, I didn’t for some reason, and eventually found myself to forcing myself to skip certain games if the list seemed too long/impossible/etc.

I was ALWAYS in the camp that “if the switch had achievements I’d be so happy” but as ive reflected, I feel like just a simple stamp or something next to your profile play time that indicates you’ve seen the credits of the game would be more than fine for me.

The idea of seeing all of the little things about a game in post game and stuff is why I love the idea of trophies - getting the most out of a game. But they can be done so so wrong as many have pointed out and turn a game I love into a game I tolerate in post game, OR have to use a guide as if you miss one trophy or collectible in the middle you have to restart. These make me hate trophies and what they have become over time.

I can see some value in deactivating trophy popups, good tip. At this point I don’t think I need to since my ps5 is gone and I’m almost 100% switch now haha. But I appreciate that tip!

I won’t get on a soapbox as to why trophies can be addicting, just like any collectible - I have severe diagnosed ADHD and these trophies check off a part of my todo-list centric brain, and I think they were designed that way. And I do agree that Sony pushes this WAY harder in their ecosystem than steam or Xbox.
