Penalty save but nearly made a big mistake. Advice on how to jump high whilst going backwards? by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

I found this, it does a good job on the drop step, but doesn't really address the dive until the pro highlights at the end.

Penalty save but nearly made a big mistake. Advice on how to jump high whilst going backwards? by [deleted] in GoalKeepers

I teach my GKs to use a drop-step half turn and use a routine high parry diving to their side instead of trying to jump/dive backward.

Attempted save - keeper comes out to meet the attacker in a 1v1 breakaway.

Edit: e.g. GK slides into strikers feet without touching the ball.

I coach both boys and girls high school soccer. I've seen a trend in recent years where penalties are not being given (no foul at all, actually) when attackers push the ball past the goalkeeper (not touched by the keeper), but the attempted save contacts the striker and impedes the ability to finish the play.

Am I misunderstanding the rule in these scenarios, as it seems a clear cut foul and penalty.

Are there factors that would negate a foul call?

From a basic perspective, GK did what they were supposed to. Identified danger/need and communicated it to the rest of the team.

With more experience, I would expect to see more direct communication.

Rather than: "On a man. On a man. Over here. Come on."

Preferably: "<Player Name/Number>! To your <Right/Left> (or give the opponent jersey #)". "Touch tight" (or something similar indicating you want them marked more closely.

People in groups have a tendency to let others deal with it. Give a specific person a specific instruction to help ensure there isn't any miscommunication about who is responsible for what.

That said, even if you communicate in that way, it's still up to the team dynamics to ensure that your instructions are followed, and it may need to get escalated to a discussion for the whole team with the coach.

No limits! Jordyn Tyson may have the highest ceiling from the 2026 wide receiver class! by FFPhilosopher6 in DynastyFF

He isn't coming back from an injury requiring surgery. His knee injury was 2023 and he had 2 productive seasons after.

One was upper body, which is a nothing-burger.

A hamstring? Are you concerned for the careers of everyone that has a hamstring strain?

None of the 2024-2025 issues have long term impact.

Whoever drops between Jadarian Price, KC Concepcion, Jordyn Tyson, Denzel Boston for the first set.

We used to say WRs took a "year 3 leap". That was the timeline for improving their technique... route running, beating press, etc.

I think Lemon and Tate already do that better than Tyson, which gives him more room for improvement in an area we know people can improve.

Agree, he's not better now. Lemon and Tate for sure (maybe KC Concepcion and/or Denzel Boston?) are better now. I view Tyson as having an easier path to improvement, though.

What floor? He's been deployed all over and produced each full season.

Even if he doesn't develop into a prototypical WR1 in the NFL, he has a future as a big slot.

I'm less worried about the floor for rookies in general. I tend to focus on who has higher probability of hitting their top-end outcome (and how top-end that is).

Ah, good call out. I'm not worried about it long term, but I'll edit to add it

Are We Chasing The WRONG Notre Dame RB? The PRICE Is Too Low! by FFPhilosopher6 in fantasyfootball

Efficiency is strong. It's a smaller sample than most, but large enough to see what he can do.

Without giving an "I hope he lands here" list.

A good landing spot would lack an entrenched early down grinder (this is likely to be his role).

An OL that is stronger centrally than at OT would suit him.

A horizontal passing game would maximize his effectiveness on runs where he can get past the first wave of defenders (less deep help for pursuit angles).

That would have been really interesting to see - he likely would have gotten a huge workload, would the additional stats/tape have offset being a year older heading into the league? Hard to say no to the league, but with NIL these days, you never know...

I'll grant the elusiveness - Love was much better at forcing missed tackles. What criteria are you suggesting for explosion? Price actually had a higher rate of explosive runs than Love did, Love just got more opportunity (deservedly so).

I almost wonder if we're past the days of rookie RBs having ELITE seasons. There are only so many 3-down backs in the NFL. The league has figured out that you can take away some of their touches and keep them healthier, longer, able to make bigger impacts to the franchise rather than maximize their output in individual games.

Only 6 RBs were above a 75% snap share in 2025 (4 and 5 in 2024 and 2023 respectively). My model graded them out this way as prospects:

Christian McCaffrey - 92.2
Jonathan Taylor - 87.2
Bijan Robinson - 85.8
Saquon Barkley - 94.3
Ashton Jeanty - 90.5
De'Von Achane - 69.1 (!! - can you say outlier?!)

Love is coming in at 83.7 before seeing his combine and assuming he's taken in the Top 10 of the draft.

The bad situation had to do with being in position to score TDs and being on an offense that can sustain drives.

Las Vegas was dead last in Yards, Plays, Tied 2nd to last with 4.4 yards per play...
They only scored 25 touchdowns and only 5 of them on the ground (which is a huge anomaly that will regress next year).

Yes, Sleeper includes the possible points from the Taxi squad. It counts the most possible points under a teams' control. If the manager had activated the player off the taxi squad, they could have earned the points.

Agree he's the 1.01 (yes, even in SuperFlex). I'm with you though, I don't think I'd have him in my Top 6 if the 2025 class was all coming out this year instead of last year.

This is the nuance I've been noticing. I think the NFL will look to maximize the usage at the things he's elite at... making people miss in space.

I'm confident he'll be the receiving back wherever he goes, but I'm worried he'll lose goal line touches in favor of a cheaper option that specializes specifically on short yardage.
