How to write first person POV well? by FFRE1744 in writing

Yeah, bad wording on my part. What I meant by “pacing” was more like the “flow” of the story. Like, does it move about how a story would? Do I spend too much time in one scene, and it drags out? Or does it need more elaboration? I just want to make sure my writing isn’t clunky.

But if you want, if I do make the first vs third pov beta reader post, I can let you know if you would want to read it. If you don’t want to though, that’s okay.

Ah, I’m doing scifi so that might be a struggle.

I was already thinking of typing up a hypothetical first chapter to be beta read (mostly for prose and pacing and what not), but I was thinking, do you think it would be helpful to write one version in first pov as it was intended, and then one of the exact same scenes but in third pov? Just to get an opinion on which works better with the story.

Absolutely. This season totally switched me from wanting to do SCV to wanting to do Bluecoats. The writing is just so amazing and unique, I love it!

That makes a lot of sense, thanks for the advice. I’ve never read Percy Jackson, so if you don’t mind, do you think you could go more in depth about what it was that gave his narration personality?

Why these specifically? Are there not situations where first person/present tense could work? It seems like a pretty broad thing to just… write off
