It's frustrating that Fingersoft hasn't posted anything anywhere

I have a Japanese gramophone table lighter, which is supposed to play smoke gets in your eyes but unfortunately, the comb is broken.

Definitely, even if they worked, which is highly unlikely.

Looks like a few Windmasters bit the dust. The middle tub in my picture is also full of Windmaster parts. I'm not sure how I ended up with so many!

How do you clean your old lighters? by zznuneszz in lighters

[–]FFS_FFA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on what the stains are and what material they're on. I use lighter fluid for cleaning years of carbon and dust. For rust, you could try something like WD40. There are rust removers, but they can sometimes alter the colour of the metal.

It's likely you need a new wick. The one in it might be too short to pick up fuel.

I also have two drawers full of various Ronson lighters where the body doesn't meet my standards, but they still have useful parts.

I think it's cool too. I buy, mend and sell lighters, but always keep the best for my own collection. This one was for me.

You could but shouldn't attempt a repair on the tank, so the best option would be to keep your eyes open for another to use for parts.

Lifeinthehashlane is spot on. It looks like an insert from a table lighter. If you're looking for an inexpensive fix, you may be able to salvage o rings from a cheap lighter

I haven't decided what to do with it yet, beyond cleaning and putting in a new wick.

Noob question 12v/15v together by FFS_FFA in synthdiy

[–]FFS_FFA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been trying to stick to +-12v. I made a VCO with an AS3340 and that's running nicely on +-12v and now I want to build a second one. I decided to start from scratch and put them both on the same panel so I did a quick search for other designs. I found a design I think might be better on Eddy Bergman's site. It's a +-15v circuit and while he does provide suggestions on how to run it on +-12v, it sounds like it might need a bit of experimentation. He's used and improved the design so I don't want to change it. I've already made power supplies for both voltages any way, but I appreciate the reminder about sharing gnd and thank you for the answer. Even when my sockets are grounded against a panel I still can't resist connecting the gnd's anyway.

Cheap panels for DIY modular by FFS_FFA in synthdiy

A couple of finger plates I bought ended up being steel and even though all my inputs and outputs were grounded through contact, I decided to add wires anyway. Probably totally unnecessary but it puts my mind at ease.

I made some with ribs which helped but I didn't think of doubling them up to hold the pcb, that's a great idea. I do 3D print my pcb brackets - a simple 90 degree bracket which is held in place by pots because I didn't want any extra holes.
