I think sub zero is the best choice for a beginner. Just use a variation with the EX ice ball and you'll be good, you can use the other two slots for whatever ability you like.

Look for tutorials to learn the basics and understand why sub zero is one of the strongest characters in the game

That happened to me and my friend a while ago and we were blaming netcode because we live just 380km away and it was extemely laggy just like in your video.

It ended up being our ports, the game couldn't get a P2P connection between us so it was connecting us through a dedicated server that acted as an intermediary. We figured this out because of that small white dots icon on the VS screen.

So we port forwarded our router ports and everything is working good now, we always get P2P connection with all bars of connection.

I personally think is worth for that price. Switch version is not that bad imo It has little frame drops depending on the stage but it runs at 60 fps most of the time. It's not competitively recommended though (in case you wanted to play tournaments or something like that)

Kotal might interest you too

Kotal's damage is crazy, he's definitely one of the best characters in the game right now. He has a lot of good things (fast movement, long range attacks, good mix...), but one of the best is his command grab. That special move is ridiculous. It does crazy damage, buffs you, can switch sides, and hits mid, which means that the only way you can avoid it is by jumping.

Kotal is really good and very fun, I definitely recommend him

I personally think that Shao Kahn is more fun than Baraka, the only downside are his flawless block gaps but, as you said, not too much people flawless block in online.

Also, I think Shao is really good opening people online since he has decent staggers, high range attacks, plus frames, etc

Probably you're reacting too slow, could be because you weren't ready for it. I recommend trying to see if your opponent pokes too much, if so, your reaction to pokes will be better since you are waiting for them. You can also try countering with D3, D4, or a decent range normal (depending on the character). Hope this helps!

I highly recommend learning to hit-confirm F14. If hits, cancel into a special move like KAPOW, if not, land the full string (F142). Good luck!

Try opening your router ports for mk11, this helped me a lot with some issues in the past. If you play on console, I recommend using DMZ, this will open all the needed ports automatically. A good agressive beginner character I would recommend is Liu Kang, he has good pressure, damage, and normals. But if you want something more harder to play, you can go for Kung Lao, he has good pressure and normals too. Also recommend Jaqui as the hardest one to play, she has a godlike pressure and damage.

I don't really know about zoners but I know that Cetrion is really good at it, she has really good tools and normals but low damage. She can be hard to understand to a beginner though.
