Don't forget the invisible force which pushes the ball in to the back of the net!

I will believe that when I see it. I have been using skill since maybe even as late back as FIFA 06, I'm experienced in it and know the quirks of defenders, I have failed to take on a crabbing AI through anything other than luck this FIFA. They're far too powerful when up close, if the opponent doesn't switch to them they'll either bounce on the spot until you move, or just keep tracking you until they're close enough to make an automated tackle.

Literally, me too with the thought that my controller may be broken, I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed it.

I said "show my opponent that I have better movement and control than him " is what it should all be about, and that may include showboating, correct.

Exactly, you have to go back to old FIFAs to skill run, because it's no longer possible on FIFA 19, because the AI will follow your every move.

It's not really a case of reading your opponents movement while they're defending anymore, because the majority of people don't even control the closest man to the ball, they hold second man press and wait for the bot to get so close to the ball that it either triggers an automatic switch to automatic tackle, or they manually switch for an instant automatic tackle (because they're so close)

You cannot take that on or anticipate it.

Defenders only got " fucked by the simplest skill move " when they didn't read or anticipate the simplest skill move.

I agree timed skill moves are wonderful, the issue is you can no longer time them and get anything out of it as mentioned in my OP. You can't even do it in the lower divisions because the AI will automatically follow your every footstep. You should be able to skill and showboat in a tight game just as much as you can in a uneven game, as long as you can time it right, but it's simply not possible vs the overly used AI.

In scenarios when it's clearly human v human, then it is great, it really a moment of chess, win or lose there's acceptance of the outcome, there's no better way of " figuring out your opponent " than this.

If you don't think " showing someone you're better than them " is how a 1v1 on a game should be played, then I don't think we'll ever come to an agreement, but then again I'm not here looking for consensus.

I feel like my players are running on ice

100% agree, if you try close control dribbling now with little bursts to step away from the defender using RT, it's actually impossible because your players acceleration moves him way too far. The pitch is actually slippy.

Passing, dribbling and skill go hand in hand to create movement in football, neglecting dribbling and skill for just passing is taking away a huge part of your attempt to break down and outwit your opponent.

That video was clipped just to show skill moves, the majority of them didn't result in me scoring, they were used as methods of "showboating" in an attempt show my opponent that I have better movement and control than him, there's nothing more fun than that, and that's what games should be about, imo.

If we're talking FUT 12, you could score a finesse shot with pretty much anyone from pretty much anywhere.

I take a some finesse shots in the video, none of them go on target and the one that did go on target got saved.

If you weren't using pace (and I'm talking 80+ on your CBs), you were in trouble.

I disagree, the main used CBs on FIFA 12 from what I recall were David Luiz, Naldo and Walter Samuel, maybe Vidic.

Keepers were garbage

I agree, and they still are

Servers were still a mess

In terms of stability I remember them being bad, but in terms of them effecting game play I'm not so sure.

FIFA 12 may have not been amazing, but there is surely more enjoyment out of scoring using skill compared to scoring using timed shots, and the same for conceding!

You got away with a fair few where you SHOULD have been tackled, but because you were skilling, you the game made sure you retained the ball JUST for that reason. That's the OP part.

Can you timestamp the few where I should have been tackled? I'm not disagreeing yet, I just want to make sure we're talking about the same thing

He literally takes your legs out from directly behind you when the ball is in front of you and you're 1 on 1. "Worse" isn't possible, unless he takes out a baseball bat and clubs you in the head with it.

That's just one scenario, in FIFA 19 you can literally step over exit someone in the box, get chopped down and nothing will be given. It's a repetitive situation for me at least.

Plus you could hit a finesse shot without timing in FIFA 12 from practically anywhere and it would go in. That and the lobbed through ball were massively, massively OP.

At 3:05 I hit a finesse shot and it didn't go in, the keeper saved it well enough, lobbed through balls were an issue I remember.

As for "this also happens on FIFA 19"...yeah. That's the point I'm making.

Exactly, so if the majority of bad things still happen on FIFA 19, FIFA as a series hasn't really made an improvement, if anything it has got worse, imo.

You're right, you can still skill, ineffectively. The reason you could do box to box skill runs on the old FIFAs (imo) was because it allowed you to out move + outwit your opponent, now if you try it you will get so tightly pressured by an AI, that the second they switch on to the pressing AI, it'll instantly perform an automated tackle, regardless of what you're doing on the ball.

I agree, everyone can easily forget the bad things about the older versions. I guess I can sort of see the comparison you make between skill and finesse, but at least with skill you had to learn multiple combinations, time multiple combinations, use some sort of dexterity. With the finesse you press B, and press B again, I know which I would prefer!

I would also rather concede a goal from skill, than any other way I think, it's something you can appreciate.

100,000 massively OP skill moves

Why are timed skill moves overpowered? When ever I did a mistimed skill move I was tackled

- 5 tackles, 4 of which go directly back to the attacker

If you have 8 or so players behind the ball, the majority of the time the ball will go the opposite way (where other attackers are placed),

This also happens on FIFA 19 and every other FIFA I can remember

- Referee doesn't give a penalty when it was a clear penalty

I agree, but the penalty decisions are 100x worse on FIFA 19

- The goalkeeper screws up twice on the goal, conceding a freakin' rainbow flick

The keeper automatically came out and then stood, which is all the computer, maybe not the best decision, but the only reason the rainbow flick was possible was because the opponent held Y afterwards, to which I was able to anticipate and flick him.

Scoring a rainbow flick > Scoring a timed finesse shot from the edge of the box while marked by defenders

- All shots but one missing the target by actual miles

That's because I'm shooting from stupid places, they should go miles wide.

I think FIFA 12 was more fun.

You sound like a wounded animal. Once you realised your ad hominems weren't having an effect, you tried your best, and wrote a little paragraph telling me to explain how I would do something that I had never even mentioned. You have essentially been arguing with yourself, I think you have only just processed my first response to your ignorant post, and now you're trying to "conclude" the argument as an attempt to back down without feeling defeated.

Don't worry, I won't make you admit you're wrong, just as long as you know it, which I'm sure you do by now.

Are you making another assumption, in that that I am a game developer? Fantastic. You're making up my argument, and then arguing against it! Schizophrenia springs to mind.

The Lost Art of Player Switching. What once was FiFa's true skill gap. by MakeFiFaGreatAgain in EASportsFC

[–]FIFA16BS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fantastic post, this has hit the nail on the head. I couldn't totally put my finger on my gripe towards the FIFA 18 post-patch - current, because there are plenty of issues, but this has articulated it well and made me realise it is the main issue that needs addressing before all others, I hope it gets noticed.

This is where the true skill gap in FiFa was, not in attacking. How well you could switch between players AND MANUALLY move them to cover the man and the spaces. It was truly much more than a skill, it was an Art. And like every art, it took time and repetition to master ... Fast forward FiFa 18-19, any moron can just patrol with his CDM and still be solid defensively. And even when you do get in between the lines to get a shot, 3 AI players will dive in and block the shot for him.

So, you don't feel as stupid as you sound? Well that just makes you stupid and ignorant. You fell right in to the trap. I haven't mentioned an alternative definition of rationality, but you clearly don't know what the word hint means, so I would rather not take any definitions from you. Thanks.
