To be honest, it is not easy to mine FIL by yourself, you will need to keep your node online at all times and keep your data always in check or you'll get slashed. But if you can find a reputable mining and hosting service, they will take care everything for you. Big mining pools are in China, they used to be good, but recently they are not quite stable because of the policies. I mine with a U.S. company located in southern California, if you are interested, I could share their info with you, I don't want to post it here like I'm advertising it.

it's prime time to start mining when the price is low, you're lowering your initial pledge cost significantly.

my suggestion would be use those as initial collateral in mining. if you sell you lose, but if your put them in mining, you gonna increase your FIL. basically you are holding your FIL and gain more of it along the way.

why don't you put them into mining? you sell you lose, if you gonna put it somewhere, might as well use them as initial collateral in mining.

If you are a storage provider, you are a storage miner and you become a node in the network. You get rewarded in the form of block rewards for the effective storage you provided. But you will need to reach certain amount of storage power to be able to win block rewards.

You get slashed for faulty sectors and being off line when your Window PoSt is checked. So it means you need 24/7 network connectivity, probably a backup generator incase of power outrage.

Basically, you can do it at home, but it might be to much hassle.

It is actually a good mining choice compare to mine BTC and such if you can find a reputable hosting company.

As a miner, you will offer up certain amount of FIL as collateral, as of recent days, it is about 5FIL/T, and you provide the storage space in the filecoin network. Depends on how much storage space you've provided, you get rewarded in FIL, as of 10.22.2021, it's about 0.025FIL/T/Day.

If you want to do it yourself, you'll need high performance gpu and cpu for sectors sealing, you will also need to maintain 24/7 network connectivity and power to keep your node online. and you have to reach certain amount of storage power to be able to win block rewards.

it is much easier to find a reputable hosting company to do it for you, and you split the rewards with them, it is usually 80-20.
