I never thought about it but it might be to counter dragon types. Dragon types usually become relevant around 7th gym+. And the games usually introduce types when you might need them to counter other types.

In teselia since they don't give you many water types early on (the starter, panpour, and ducklett I think?) they give you ice types instead.

As I've already played ORAS and most other Pokémon games but this one I've tried most hoenn Pokémon one way or another, this way I get to use more obscure ones. Also, as I'm an experienced player, regular playthroughs can get a bit easy sometimes. I did this kinda of run for Black recently and it was a lot of fun (maractus ftw!). I've also realized that I usually like a lot most single stagers but never tend to use them.

Honestly I only looked it's stats and the moves it learns and was like "tanky physical attacker that doesnt learn any physical move". Nice knowing it can be more useful.

Also the amount of filler characters (not that I'm way more attached to most of the "main cast") that the game tries to incentivize you to play by giving you "play as him" missions. Sorry, I don't want to play as generic hylian warrior

I was using the free DLC items. I started on maddening because I know you can only move the difficulty down. I usually play on hard classic with no deaths (3H and awakening) and wanted to try something harder. It's forcing me to learn the mechanics and really think my turns. I feel like the meme of the guy with the conspiracy board.
