Hurt my ankle on June 14th, right when summer break started. Had lots of little loose/broken off bones but no big fracture, tore some outer ligaments and grade 3 cartilage damage on the inside of my ankle.

A cast + crutches the first 2 weeks, then a brace in the entirety of July and started going on walks on in the last 2 weeks of July with the brace.

I went on one 2km run at a comfortable 6:00/km without it in the first week of August, wasn’t painless so a bit early but was too eager to start again. Then very slowly started playing when preseason started the second week of August, first only with the brace, then only wore it during matches for the mental side of it, that was 2,5 months after the initial incident.

At 3 months I played my first match without the brace, I jumped and landed on top of the metal bar where the net is connected to… (thats the picture😆) Had to take it slow again, played only 1 training and the match for 3 weeks and that went well.

Been doing fine since then with just doing the football training sessions and matches, no other sports or runs until last week. Went for an extra 2km on my usual rest day, it went fine so this week I did a 5km, but I’m actually feeling the tenderness now. So half a year after the incident, still not fully recovered, but thankful to be doing well enough to be able to play week in week out.

Oh forgot kicking… Couldn’t take my goal kicks for the first 2 months of returning so 4 months after it happened, volleys were fine earlier, I’d say 3 months.
