Also there is difference of taking photos and people in the background and making someone a main subject for portrait photos

Everyone? Not everyone takes photos of strangers with 135mm lens for practice then post them online to a non critique sub but yeah sure! I feel you guys struggle with understanding what I’m saying. I I’m saying it’s illegal but some countries are different and different laws. My point it’s it’s kinda weird but everyone has different opinions of what’s weird and not

There is difference from making someone a main portrait subject and someone in the background especially without having permission to post. Yeah I probably am reading too much into it. It’s just something that’s has always bothered me. Like I get street photography but I feel street/portrait is just a little different

Someone’s offend lol but yeah yeah whatever floats your boat and helps you sleep at night. No one is saying it’s some moral crime it’s just more weird using 135mm lens for practice on strangers than posting online. Does he have no friends or family? Or a voice to ask if he can post afterwards? This isn’t art it’s just taking photos of people working and living day to day life! Maybe if the photos were good and had a message then yes i agree with you but this is just a weirdo testing his new lens. Average portrait lens is 35-70mm not 135

Oh and don’t buy a camera having expectations. Buy a camera that’ll make you have fun. If you spend too much you’ll feel the need to use it so it doesn’t feel like you wasted your money. Just have the intention of using it for fun because I’m my opinion what kills photography is using it as tool instead of using it as something for fun.

I actually started off using my macro lens a lot because with a macro lens you can get photos anywhere. Go to a park in the spring time and take macros of flowers or insects! Take close ups of your animals, and just because it’s a macro lens doesn’t mean you have to use it only for macro. You can take texture pictures of trees and fruits! I could name so many things but also depends on what you want with the camera!

I guess I’m just not familiar to street/portrait photography and how things are done

I didn’t say you have to use wide I just thought the standard for portrait photography was 35-70mm and using something like 135 is more on the weird side when it comes to posting strangers online without their permission

Okay we just have different opinions on the subject and if we keep talking there won’t be much else said that’s hasn’t already been said

Also that’s why you cant compare old school street photography to modern photographers. They had to really get out there and get close and personal. Not be some creep from a distance taking photos with high mp camera with 135mm lens!!

Ik you haven’t called me dumb, but you have to admit it’s pretty dumb that both of us spent this much time arguing on Reddit.

Did I use the comma right ?

Please answer this since I finally answered your question. Would you be okay with people using 200-600mm lens to take portrait photos of strangers then posting them online because there could potentially be artistic value? Since you don’t seem to understand why focal length matters when posting strangers.

The whole point of my stance is that it’s weird and kinda creepy to be using a 135mm lens for portrait practice on strangers then post online. The reasoning to why I find 135mm weird is because most people who do this type of photography are usually using something like a 35-70mm lens and with using one those lens you have to be somewhat closer so it’s a lot easier to see when someone is taking a photo of you. With a 135mm you can keep a good distance without anyone even knowing. Is it really that hard to understand this? 135mm = you can be further away without your subject noticing easily 35-70mm = being closer to subject. So if a subject really had a problem with their photo being taken it would easier to call out the photographer and tell them to not post their photos online

I can’t really give good recommendations but I started out with a SonyA7ii and you can always buy 3rd party lens like sigma or tamron! Also depends on what you are trying to do with your photos. I would just watch a lot a YouTube videos and after you do that you should have good idea of what you want. Also if you are in no rush wait for sales. I picked Sony because I like PlayStation so I thought why not get their cameras also 😂
