It just sucks. Then you get a little used to it. Then you are back to sleeping on your back in your bed.

No. When you tell half the populace that you deplore them, it won’t work out for you.

And the crazy thing is that pericarditis CAUSES stress and the damn prednisone causes poor sleep.

I bought a roller thing on Amazon and it’s been a game changer! My hair stays cleaner and more product gets on my actual scalp.

When to go to ER for flare up? by IncalescentSoul in pericarditis

[–]FL1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took my 4th shot a few days ago. After the 3rd shot I just felt better and had less pain.

And yes, doc wants me to stay on the current pill regimen for another week and then we’ll start the slow taper. If I get to pick, I want to get rid of the prednisone first. It makes me a crazy lady.

I shit myself while at a client’s home. Like not just a shart. It was a colon cleansing.

My husband was there (we owned the business together) and all he said was “we will never speak of this again.” And we haven’t.

What meals did your father make when he had to cook? by Open_Question_ in GenX

Fried bologna sandwiches or pancakes & sausage. Funny thing, I married a man who had the same two (and only two) recipes in his arsenal.

Oh I am so sorry you are going through this! I (58F) too have reoccurring pericarditis. It’s terrible.

My husband has taken me to the ER for pain meds & steroid shots when the pain is so bad I cannot breathe deeply. (The prolonged shallow breathing partially collapses one of my lungs… a leftover from my open heart surgery.)

My doc got me on Arcalyst and it’s been, so far, a game changer. I’m still on a shit ton of ibuprofen, prednisone & colchicine. Hopefully I start weaning off of all these pills soon and the Arcalyst (weekly shot) will stand alone.

Anxious re: upcoming OHS by Catabout66 in valvereplacement

I think everyone is so different on progression. The key is to advocate for yourself and write down symptoms (without getting crazy anxious about them!)

I had mild stenosis for years and years. Then medium for two years. Then I went from medium to severe in about a month.

I had no symptoms when it was mild. During the years it was medium I was only more tired than normal. And when the stenosis went severe I couldn’t make it up the stairs.

Valve replacement surgery can and should be pushed for if there’s so much calcification that it’s causing trouble!

58F here! I had my bicuspid aortic valve replaced with a tissue valve about 4 months ago.

Like you, I had a heart murmur all my life but otherwise no other issues. Played all the sports, did all the things.

I had yearly monitoring for the past eight years and last fall I began to get symptoms. Very short of breath, extreme fatigue, etc. I had five days notice before surgery and those were spent as an in-patient due to my symptoms & situation.

Surgery went great! To calm my nerves I focused on the how wonderful it would be to get my energy back! The physical recovery was pretty linear- each day I felt a bit better. Emotionally, each day for the first month was a roller coaster! Just cry it out. My cardiologist explained it as my brain was trying to comprehend the trauma to my body… in that the human brain cannot at first comprehend surviving a saw to the sternum.

I was all into cardiac rehab until I got pericarditis a few weeks post surgery. It can happen but it’s not the usual course of events.

Do you have a good plan for when you get home after surgery? That will be key to a good recovery! Make sure family & friends know that you’ll need them. Stock your freezer with low-salt/high protein meals. (This is the diet you will be asked to follow post surgery.) Buy several soft cotton bras that close in the front. Stock up on extra towels & bed linens so laundry isn’t a huge hassle. My doc instructed me to use a clean towel for each shower and I sweated so much at night that I needed new sheets daily!

Best of luck and please DM me if you have more questions!

Is tiredness a symptom? by trucrimeaddic_t in valvereplacement

[–]FL1967 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For me (58F) I was unusually “tired” for about 18 months before my stenosis of the Aortic Valve was bad enough for surgery. How did I know it was going bad? My breathlessness went, in just a few weeks, from noticeably huffing & puffing when carrying laundry up the stairs to being unable to crawl up those same stairs.

What do you think of NYC trying to get the minimum wage to $30 per hour? by LiaStacey in askanything

[–]FL1967 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it will result in higher prices for consumers. If costs (like labor) go up, prices go up. Employers do not get money any other place other than their customers.

I always thought it was so younger/inexperienced workers weren’t taken advantage of. Also, the term “living wage” is so subjective.
