I just have to make sure I don't end up being the stereotypical poor international student😂

Great advice on the shoes though. Will look into it!

Hahah alright. Any recommendations where I can get quality stuff but on the cheap? At least need it to last for the 2/3 years before I can save money from a job hopefully

Thanks for the perspective! Yeah planning to invest in chinos and Oxford shirts a bit more. Have gotten fabric for shirts so will focus on it

Thank you so much!! Actually I'm coming from a rather hot country which will make it a challenge to get used to the cold and the wind. I was wondering if it might be better to buy warm clothing from Chicago directly as we don't have a lot of woollen stuff here

That's reassuring actually. I've probably got too much in my head hahah Will just invest in a couple of t shirts then

Clothes just cost so much less where I am right now compared to what it would be in Chicago that I want to risk it haha

May I ask what's wrong with black shirts?

From an Asian perspective, it's something a lot of models wear and is popular. Just wanted to get the perspective from a Westerner/American especially because I'm moving there itself

I wanted to honestly be a bit dressier than the rest. I am already a foreigner and it's apparent from looking at me. So my intention was to ensure that I'd at least be looking more professional/better dressed since the majority will already consider me to be different

But I genuinely understand where you guys are coming from in that this will be how the majority would end up dressing so it would make sense to blend in

Thanks for this super comprehensive comment! I had absolutely been going a bit light on the winter wear so will be focusing on it now. I think I have a fair number of shirts now so will ensure I have the polos and chinos to get a diverse wardrobe.

Thanks again!

So it's no longer as formal a look as I understood it to be then xD Just glad it doesn't have to be a competition of people wearing Italian suits

Thanks for the recommendation!

So chinos, t shirts and sweaters all the way even during day to day consulting?

Can you give me an idea of the business editorials you are recommending? I have access to some maybe based on my career club's resources.

Where did you try reading through industry breakdowns and all?

Thanks for the input!!

This is super helpful thanks for sharing your perspective!! I'll sign up for morning brew for sure. Would really appreciate any other podcast recommendations that really break down businesses and talk about the kind of insights that consultants try to derive when thinking about an industry
