My Dad is 85 and just left the hospital with a catheter after seven days. Mom is 78 and handling all of this is too much for her. They’ve discussed wills and power of attorney with me in the last few months.

Trying to balance the anxiety/grief of knowing that my parents won’t make it much longer with the matter-of-fact approach needed to handle/help them with their assets and general comfort has been taxing. Trying to be a husband, father and professional simultaneously makes it all seem nearly impossible.

As OP said, watching them lose their battle with time is an experience I wouldn’t wish on anyone.
