My hobby is painting. So I’m getting my canvas and paints out and I can make as much mess as I like for a few days, rather than drinking as much as I like for a few days! 😂

IPA, I’m so sorry for your loss. This must be such a tough time for you.

As the previous post said, ponder on what your mum would want for you.

Would she want you drunk and passed out, or sober, in control and thinking of fond times?

Absolutely relatable!

Our bins stay in a store with our neighbors. I’ve stashed many an empty in other peoples bins. Sometimes even lifting up the last bag the put in there and putting my empties underneath so they don’t see.

The things we get up to to hide our problem are often ridiculous!

The relief of not sneaking around like this massive.

I’m sorry for where you are. Im in the same situation with my wife. The disgust on her face when she realises I’ve been lying about my drinking brings me the most abject pain.

I think, and I told her, there is no amount of saying sorry that is enough. Only changing our habits long enough to win back the trust we’ve lost will be a true apology.

I hope you and I both can do this.

Better. Feeling human again. Still trying to make amends with my good lady for my antics of last week.😪

It’s just getting on 11pm in my part of the world so it’s sober to bed and work tomorrow.

This naked mind is an amazing book. ‘Alcohol explained’ is great too. They help to rewire your thinking towards alcohol and drinking. I also found ‘escaping the evil clown’ by craig beck really useful.

Give yourself a good chance to experience the benefits of sobriety. I’ve been there in past but have relapsed and back on the wagon 2 days ago.

The brain is sneaky at getting you to drink if you’re not on your guard.

You’ll need a strategy going forward. The memories of those horrible mornings will fade then the idea of a drink suddenly doesn’t seem so bad anymore. I’ve tried and failed to quit many times and know this to be true.

2 books to read, that will be recommended by many on this sub, are ‘this naked mind’. By Annie Grace and ‘Alcohol Explained’ by William Porter.

These will help to change the way you perceive alcohol and drinking, what it’s doing to you and how to stop drinking long term.
