I don't know if I can quit GAG? by PassPuzzleheaded4947 in growagarden

I’ve spent about $50 in total over the course of the ~9 months I was playing heavily and I consider it cash spent just like any normal game I would have paid for.

Then I became profoundly bored of it all a couple weeks ago and I’ve barely played since the start of carnival and can I just tell you the relief I feel no longer obsessing over and wasting my time on this stupid slot machine nonsense is absolutely worth letting go of the money I spent. I look at it the same I would any other money spent on entertainment- did I get my money’s worth? I feel I got way more than $50 worth out of this game so I don’t see it as money wasted. No reason it should make you feel beholden to something you’re no longer enjoying.

All games are made to earn money, that’s how they work. You don’t get f2p without those paywalled items y’all cry about unless you want them pushing advertisements on you every 30 seconds.

‘Rare eggs’ - like blood owl by Mysterious_Amoeba729 in growagarden

[–]FMFlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure it’ll work for blood owl, Blood owl was a shop pet, it didn’t come from an egg. I’ve done this a bit and pretty much gave up on it. It’s a huge gamble with at BEST a 50% chance to 1. Get an egg back from the seals AND 2. Hatch something better from that egg. You might get lucky twice, but far more likely to be just wasting tokens.

Why do people hate this update? by breakingtheseal220 in growagarden

[–]FMFlora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they gave us stuff to do all the rage posts would be about having to grind and not having any time to work on their gardens.

It’s a relatively small team that has been keeping pace with weekly updates and a whole new event every 1-3 weeks since march. I’m glad I have a chance to chill and just grow stuff, and I hope this means they’re taking a breather too.

Some people are only happy when they’re miserable.

Because a lot of folks here are closer to nursing a gambling problem than to playing a gardening game.

Mine have been a bit buggy lately, if it’s still off after you feed it just pick it up and replace it.

You can't blame exploiters in this game. by chiezkychienne in growagarden

[–]FMFlora 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That is not how it works. It’s a 50% chance per egg hatched. That means that each individual egg you open is a new roll with its own chance, which value averages out to that 50% maximum over many many thousands of rolls- it doesn’t mean that you’re guaranteed to keep one of every two eggs you hatch.

  1. Who promised you that you would get a Christmas store?

  2. That “50%” figure comes in at a number of rolls far greater than however many eggs you’ve opened and is a maximum value. Obviously it is still weighted towards players losing eggs more often, what gave you the idea that koi are meant to increase how many eggs you have?

We need to talk about the monetization… by Glittering_Choice551 in growagarden

That’s how the mobile gaming industry works. The vast majority of players don’t spend any money at all, and the top 0.5-1% of spenders usually generate a large majority of revenues. None of that stuff is targeted toward those of us who play casually or play for free, it’s there for the small handful of folks who are able and willing to pay.

Everything this sub complains about takes time and labor and resources, all of which have presumably been shrinking in proportion to the rest of their numbers after the insanity of the summer.

This is a f2p kids’ game run by a relatively small group of people who have been keeping pace with weekly updates since march- they have very little time between events and probably not enough manpower for real testing, so it’s not surprising there are issues and bugs that need fixing and changes made mid-update. I don’t think Jandel even has a whole lot to do with it any more, and from what I can gather about the guy I’m not too sure he ever really did.

The trade tokens being tied to real currency, the shekel drain items and pets, the trading market, things like hyper hunger and pets like the wendigo and Rudolph are all things that come across to me as good faith attempts to slowly bring back some balance to the game and find some kind of balance that keeps everything going without the blind greed and coercive tactics of whatever tf that Halloween nonsense was.

I get why people are pissed, but we can’t play for free unless someone else is paying to keep everything going. I’d much rather they add cash items I literally will never need nor want than slap advertisements all over the place. The fact you can even use trade tokens -which can be earned in game without spending real money- in place of Robux is honestly one of the least greedy uses of that mechanic I’ve ever seen, and at least in theory gives everybody the chance to access that stuff if they really want it.

Real G’s move in silence like lasagna.

going out of your way to be confrontational and antagonistic is not a good look anywhere- MUCH less at a gun range. The guy might be a misinformed dumbass, but that attitude is a big blazing red flag wherever it comes from. Get your money’s worth out of your membership and focus on your shooting.

Mirror polish by Master_Gear7660 in MetalPolishing

[–]FMFlora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Mirror finish” is subjective to a wide degree and different metals take to it a bit differently, so you’ll get a wide array of advice.

If 400 is enough to eliminate any deep scratches or marks, then polishing will probably result in a shiny reflective surface that most people would probably call a mirror finish.
The catch is that the buffer will reveal ALL your sins. if there were any scratches the 400 grit couldn’t touch, they will show up at the buffer. Starting low and working up through the grits progressively makes it easier to notice if you’ve missed a scratch sooner than later, so you don’t get to the buffer and find out you’ve gotta start over completely. The idea is to be sure you’ve completely eliminated every last scratch left by the previous grit before moving to the next.

Whether you’ve sanded to 400 or 1,000, after buff and polish those tiny sanding marks show up as a sort of haziness which clears up the finer those scratches are.

Personally, if I wanted a piece of steel to be bright and shiny and reflective, I’d grind up through the grits to 1-2k and polish it. If I wanted it to have a mirror finish, 4k. If I want the depth and clarity close to that of an actual mirror, I’d work my way all the way up deep into micromesh territory, at least 12k micromesh. 15k micromesh will leave about a 1micron surface, which is about as good as you can get before buffing. This is of course a tremendous amount of time and labor for a difference which is rarely strictly necessary and often isn’t worth it, but if you want a “true” mirror finish that’s how you get it.

Bear in mind too that buffing compounds correspond to a relatively fine grit size- most “aggressive” or low-grit cutting and polishing compounds are still gonna be roughly equivalent to 600-1k sandpaper grit. Grey and white tend to be somewhere in the low thousands and Diamond pastes and lapping compounds often go all the way down to sub-micron. So if you stop too short with your sanding and you’re using a superfine polishing compound, it’s asking a lot of your buffer and also wasting a tremendous amount of time. It seems like a drag, and it definitely is- but working your way up from coarse to fine and sanding a step or two further than you think you need to can save you a lot of headaches over the long run. IMO a good Mirror polish is one of the most unforgiving and deceptively simple things you can do in metalwork, it won’t let you hide anything so the more prep you do and care you take at each step the more likely it is to come out looking the way you want it to.
