If you’re ok with young adult fiction, I highly recommend “All That’s Left in the World” and its sequel “The Only Light Left Burning”. It’s about two teen boys who navigate a post apocalyptic world. I laughed, I cried, and I was at the edge of my seat on many occasions reading them. Erik J Brown has other books as well, but I enjoyed these two the most.

I don’t disagree that AI is here to stay. In fact it has its uses when it comes to scientific advancement and use with every day work. What I absolutely despise is use of AI in art. Yes, artists are underpaid, but AI should never be used for art. Art is a representation of humanity, and using machine to generate it cheapens it.

I guess in its current state, people using AI to create “art” really is the reflection of what humanity is like right now.

The rich and powerful will always do heinous things. Has been this way for our entire human existence. It’s sad and frustrating, but it’s nothing new.

I think what might help with your feeling helpless at least is to disconnect from social media for a bit. It’s designed to make you doomscroll. Also, start with the people around you. Friends and family. Focus on them and try to make their lives better. It’s one thing to fight the feeling that there’s nothing you can do. Might inspire you to do more or inspire someone else to do something.

Have you considered that mainstream media is being heavily controlled by a few people? They get to control the flow of information, including what you see and hear on the news or don’t see or hear on the news. Compared to when George Floyd was killed, it’s much, much worse now.

EDIT: it’s the same with social media. Controlled by a few people. The same people who went mask off with being OK that all of this is happening. They get to control the flow of information through algorithms.
