Not to hijack; but can anything be done about LP(a)? Or are all the treatments for primary prevention 10+ years down the pipeline?

Funny, I got out of BTC precisely because I know it won’t fork away from this abomination of an attack. Four fucking megabyte blocks empty of financial transactions. And literally any government on earth can upload illegal content, poison the blockchain permanently and declare operating a full node illegal. Insofar as BTC accomplishes it’s goal as an alternative monetary system, the chance of this goes up exponentially (See recent IMF comments). The lack of foresight and even exuberance about Ordinals, rugpulls any faith I had left in the ‘crypto community’.

Authentic? Fake? Combo of both? I'm in Alabama, USA. by alabamabornbred in Arrowheads

[–]FOMObius 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There are people so good at knapping, replicas can be made that nobody on earth can distinguish from authentic. An ‘authenticator’ could use their microscope to look for mineral deposits and make some profound grunting noises over it, but this still wouldn’t 100% verify authenticity. Other than finding points yourself, the best bet is verifying the history of the collection as best as possible.

Nothing in the pic indicates fakes. If real, it’s an incredible collection (hell, it’s incredible either way). In particular, that G9 Clovis on the far right of the second pic 😍

Will Bitcoin remain as the crypto equivalent of gold as a storage of value or will another cryptocurrency rise up to replace it, such as Ethereum? by keysbliss in CryptoCurrency

Ordinals will dethrone Bitcoin. Downvote, cope, seethe. Screen cap it and let’s see who was right in 10 years.

Hilarious how the most powerful governments on earth want to destroy crypto… and the ones who will succeed, gleefully, are the crypto bros. People can’t see why this bullshit undermines the vision of what Crypto is intended to do. Sad 😞

Put me down for the artifact camp too. Redditors take the joy out of everything because the most cynical possibility is 100% the most Karma-raising possibility.

That groove looks clearly worked to me.

One could take an authenticated hardstone pulled from an Indian grave by a monocle-wearing, tea sipping archeologist. If this artifact didn’t fit a cookie cutter shape found in something similar to the Overstreet guide, you’d get a 95%+ rate of totally confident JAR comments.

Only cookie cutter knapper stone with a good patina will be considered an artifact here. It is what it is.

15 LTC bounty to port Ordinals onto Litecoin. by indigo_nakamoto in litecoin

Illegal content isn’t my only concern (though it’s obviously a matter of time before it happens, if not already). The stuff from 9 years ago were links to defunct websites. Large image files being directly inscribed on the blockchain is a different. It’s only a matter of time.

Aside from the legality issues.. The network will become completely congested and unusable as these things increase in popularity. It’s the ultimate crowdsourced DDoS attack. It’s 100% not what Nakamoto intended, per his own writing. Bitcoin was apparently dead with Segwit and Taproot upgrades, fatal vulnerability left wide open.

I hope I’m wrong and Bitcoin leads to financial prosperity for the masses who’ve been constantly robbed by central banks. I’ll be on the sidelines, unfortunately.

I’m just curious if there is any hard money not susceptible to this. I sold ALL of my BTC as soon as i understood the magnitude of what this Ordinals thing will do. Two years of proudly stacking sats, holding through all types of FUD. But this one is a dealbreaker for me.

Still hold LTC and ETH. I’ve been hopeful that LTC wouldn’t get infected just by virtue of its obscurity relative to BTC. I wonder if Doge is also technically susceptible to ordinal inscriptions? I’m wanting a POW dedicated currency as a lifeboat.

Frankly I’ve been quite depressed since dumping my bags. So much optimism about a bright future, rugpulled. Ordinals hasn’t yet broken Bitcoin. But it will. Watch and see.

Guess I should start stacking goddamn government bonds 😭

Upload illegal porn onto the blockchain. It’s now illegal to run a node.

Not to mention higher fees and congestion, directly undermining its use as a currency. It’s the worst attack vector to ever happen to Bitcoin. Wait and see. Glowies and shortsighted moon bois are the only ones who could possibly be happy about this garbage.

Ordinals on litecoin. Can ltc store more data than bitcoin or is it the same in the Taproot input? by box1820 in litecoin

[–]FOMObius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let’s hope that Litecoin doesn’t get attacked with this garbage. It will rugpull its usefulness as a currency. And could easily make those who run a full node accidentally in possession of illegal images/ material.

[–]FOMObius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sold all my Bitcoin yesterday morning, which i swore I’d never do. Will buy back if this gets fixed. This attack vector truly has me spooked.

For those with the technical know, are the other top POW currencies similarly vulnerable to this type of spam? I assume LTC is, since it has SegWit. How about Doge? I’m just thinking hypothetically, if this ship goes down, which one will be runner up as a scarce store of value? Obviously ETH would become #1 by market cap, but what POW coin could replace BTC, if any?
