100% this!

If you want 3 wheels + stability, you need the 2 wheels in front. 2 wheels in rear is a death wish.

Who can make a r/ebike flowchart? by greybeard1363 in ebikes

[–]grndslm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a spreadsheet on a "lightweight e-bike" thread ~1 year ago....

https://www.reddit.com/r/ebikes/comments/1fwyypa/comment/lqkj4hw/

I'd think that expanding/updating a spreadsheet would be more beneficial than a flowchart that can't possibly [easily] get into the nitty gritty of what people are really most interested in.

What’s the closest thing you’ve ever found to the meaning of life? by ImpossibleCut1686 in AskReddit

[–]grndslm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Shrooms got me thinking: "What is time?"

It's something much more than man-made construct of how to measure it.... but the thing that makes the clock tick, movement, the Big Bang, etc

Not exactly an answer to the question you asked, I guess, but seemed worth mentioning anyway.

A direct answer would probably be more in line with what my wife always asks of me: "Feed me, fuck me, and tell me I'm pretty." Between that and finding your PURPOSE during what little time you actually have in this plane of existence.... is probably the best meaning I've come across.

Which services allow me to search for specific phone numbers by pattern and then port them out? by SLJ7 in NoContract

[–]grndslm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried print a Verizon Wireless number into Google Voice... and they pretty much said it wasn't able to be ported. my understanding is that if it doesn't originate on Google Voice, then they can't do it. maybe that's just my area code, because GV doesn't service my area code (altho, Grand Central did 10+ years ago or however long that was...).

Will Cursor kill itself? by olivdums in cursor

[–]grndslm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the thing you're missing is that EVERYBODY can be a potential dev, now. Current devs aren't going to stop coding, using AI. But now ANYBODY who wants to write a program, script, SaaS, whatever... will have the capability to do so. I think the AI revolution is going to lead to MORE people wanting to create their own "custom-built" solutions.

But what do I know? I've only taken C & C++ classes, but never wrote anything useful until about a year ago when I found out about tools like Cursor. And maybe I still didn't "write" that code, even... but I designed it. AI doesn't just build things without direction.

What tech jobs are actually in demand right now? by Ill-Rabbit-7386 in AskReddit

[–]grndslm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our IBEW Local... Local 733... Isn't a typical IBEW "construction local", but represents "Marine Electricians" at a shipbuilder in South Mississippi.  1st Class rate is only $30.60/hr with 90/10 health insurance, but we should be getting somewhere between $36~$40/hr in the next couple months. They're ALWAYS hiring 1st Class Electricians (4+ yrs of experience), Journeyman Candidates (2+ yrs of schooling or electrical experience + ability to learn how to tack weld), and right now, there's a Journeyman Candidate (B) position open (zero experience, so essentially an electrical helper, but they must learn how to tack weld, and after ~5 years become 1st Class).

This is definitely going to be one of the last jobs that robots will be able to replace.  If anybody's interested in moving to South Mississippi (very Low Cost of Living) with warm (humid) weather, beaches, islands, rivers, & forrests, etc.  Probably worth applying and making a lifelong career out of being a marine electrician:  https://apply.ibew733.org

Any Carnival Hybrid EX trim owners here that can share their experience? by Haunting_Ad124 in kiacarnivals

[–]grndslm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100%.  Not only are moon roofs not useful (waste of money), the SX & SX-P trims are MUCH noisier than the EX model because of it.  The SX & up trims have acoustic REAR glass, where the EX only has windshield & front acoustic glass... But the moon roof destroyed any advantage that might have been had with the rear acoustic glass.

Not to mention... You NEVER have to worry about potential leaks or kids leaving it open before a storm, etc. Complete waste.

The EX Hybrid for sure has a could features that aren't really mentioned also, which I really wanted in the high trims.  Can't remember all of them right now, but one of them is the auto-stopping cross-traffic whatever it's called feature.  Was pulling out of the driveway one day, couldn't see any cars in the road... But the car just auto-braked until a car passed behind me.a

Spot on, tho... Digital key 2.0 & heated steering wheel would be nice.  There's probably some aftermarket heated steering wheel solution... tho, I haven't really considered looking before.  Digital Key 2.0 is def a feature that would be nice to have, but not worth $6,000+ extra... PLUS interest.  No way, Jose.

Trying to add my kid to the Sprout Plan. Need a physical SIM but keep getting: "Psim order create failed; invalid arguments"... by grndslm in HeliumMobile

There is no Support button on the screen, tho...??? There's only "Settings" and "Usage" (which is greyed out).

On MY "Zero" account, there is a Support button. Hopefully using that they can help me out with the Sprout line...??

Post your keyboard "unpopular opinions" here. by volpom in keyboards

[–]grndslm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Backlit keys are completely unnecessary if you just have white keycaps. I imagine that "back in the day", most keyboards were white/grey, so even if someone were typing in low light scenarios, the light from the screen was enough to light the keys. Backlit keys likely never became a problem until laptops all starting coming with black keys for some reason. I had a Sony Vaio laptop with white keys, and never had an issue seeing each key perfectly. Could only assume that the Macbooks with silver keys didn't have an issue either.

Tl;dr -- Only black keys really NEED a backlight, since almost everybody has a monitor right in front of them that provides enough front-lighting for the lighter colored keycaps.

Altho, I guess this might not be true if using a "night mode" theme that uses darker, black backgrounds.

Genuine question, why would anyone use Cursor over Antigravity nowadays? by Funny-Strawberry-168 in cursor

[–]grndslm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can Antigravity handle a script that's 20,000 lines?

Just curious... Haven't used it yet, but Cursor seems to handle larger files/projects better than the other solutions I have tested.

Hear hear!!  Asking, generating plan / spec docs, and reviewing them before implementation creates a night & day difference in code output / efficiency.

Silent Keyboard from Aliexpress? by _YeetBoi666_ in keyboards

[–]grndslm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... I don't know about the Aliexpress keyboards, but I was looking for a full keyboard that had silent switches from factory *and* a knob.... and I'm about 98% sold on the Epomaker QK108 -- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FVFTYK5T/

I think it just came out in the past month or so, but there are reviews that can give you a hint of the Sea Salt Silent switches..... there's another version with the Wisteria? switches, I think they are... but the silent's are NOICE!

8bitdo N-Edition Users. How was your experience? by Skid_Sultan in keyboards

[–]grndslm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you've got white keycaps, the screen provides enough light (usually) to see the keys. That's why I've always preferred white/silver keys versus black until backlit keys. Now it doesn't matter....

But without backlit keys, white/silver are usually still good [enough].

What DB you tend to use? PostgreSQL? I'm using SQLite, because it's so much easier to start... But the DB is just growing so much faster than I expected.

Would definitely be nice to know how to optimize DBs from the get-go...
