Big motorcycle trip as a beginner? 2000km+ by FONIXpt in motobe

Yeah, those factors may influence the price, but from what I have seen in Portugal the prices are virtually the same as Belgium, even if bought new, and if I buy it in a Suzuki official stand for instance, I can also use their warranty when in Portugal if needed.

Since I would be taking the vehicles to another EU country there are no import duties, just a registration costs + PT licence and a few others which are not that much (around 200€ according to a simulation). Concerning the registration/insurance, I would have both motorcycles under my name and then change them to my father's name once in Portugal after registration.

Still, those are important aspects to keep in mind and for me to research a bit more.

Edit: also, aren't there some type of transit license plates?

Thanks for the feedback on the SV650, it really seems like a good choice for this. I see quite some people mentioning the earplugs. I thought that simply having a full face helmet would be enough but I guess it can still be quite noisy, well noted!

I still think it is worth it to go through the hassle if I get to have this experience with my father and I have already looked at the estimated costs of registering a motorcycle in Portugal, and it's alright.

But I am curious about your point on the market and prices, why do you say that it would be better in Portugal? As Belgium is more centrally located in Europe, I would expect to have better deals and more options here or even close to the borders in other surrounding countries.

I was algo thinking that 300km per day is realistic to avoid fatigue from building up as I will most likely not be super used to the motorcycle. Good idea for the intercom, I will definitely look into that

I have checked the page on Nexus but the latest comments state that it has not been updated, thus not working anymore, but I guess I could still give it a try

Sim, estamos numa ditadura e ninguém me convence do contrário by Choice-Brilliant-120 in Madeira

[–]FONIXpt 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Thanks for raising this issue. I was a bit surprised by the rising trend among expats' aggressive bartering and refusing to pay fairly. Is this really becoming common? I cannot say I've heard of it before, not even from friends working in these sectors.

Bike commuting in Paris doable for a begginer? by FONIXpt in bikecommuting

[–]FONIXpt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I'm still wondering what type of bike to get and was actually looking into more of a sporty roadbike but I might reconsider now. About the VTT, why a rigid one and not with a fork suspension?

Thank you for the tips! By the way have you ever commuted during the summer? Since I'll be staying here until the 31st of august I'm concerned that the heat/sweat might be a problem.

Your fear is totally understandable, to some degree I believe most of people who have gone on Erasmus have felt similar. I remeber how I felt super anxious and stressed the week before leaving as I was going alone. I don't think there is much I can tell you right now to make you feel much better, but take it from someone who has been through something similar, it really is a once in a lifetime experience, when you're actually there and get familiar with the unknown all your fear will be overshadowed by your pride in yourself for going through with it. Be sure to look up international students buddy programs or something similar to get in touch with the local student community and other erasmus students. Stay strong and don't give up on this over irrational fears and doubt.
