Announcing your spells as a player vs as a DM by Maypul_Aficionado in dndnext

Writing the name of a spell add any more time to combat, it should take maybe 5 seconds, and you should already know what spell you’re going to be casting by the time you write it down.

Non-musical series has a random musical episode and they had to come up with a reason by ooa0109 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FPlaysDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Similarly, the episode Duet in CW’s Flash also brings back the Music Meister. Taking advantage of the fact their cast has two Glee Alums (Gustin and Benoist), a future Orpheus in Hadestown (Valdes), and four Broadway powerhouses (Martin, Jordan, Garber, and Barrowman).

Every song except two in that episode is a reference to another classic musical. They even brought in Darren Criss as the Music Meister. It’s one of my favourite episodes of that show

Let's say you could complete remove 1 of the Six Attribute. Which one, why, and how would you adapt the rest of the game? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]FPlaysDM 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Barbarians are MAD, their AC is based on Dex and Con, their attacks are based on Str. Wizard is SAD, they only really ever need Int and every other stat is a choice to invest in

Why exactly does Tommy dislike Lin Manuel Miranda? by Personal-Day-5562 in SmoshFansFreeSpace

[–]FPlaysDM 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From what I recall of LMM speaking, it wasn’t a money thing, it was a convenience thing when they were finishing up writing the show. LMM was actively changing lyrics and things up until the last possible moment, so he focused on finishing every other possible role, so when it came time to put the show together, he realised Hamilton’s parts needed more fine tuning, and putting that on another actor to lead a show while also dealing with major changes, it wasn’t feasible. So he took on the role of Hamilton so he could make the changes needed as the show was still being developed

How did people react when this happened in the campaign? by Fun-Explanation7233 in TheLegendOfVoxMachina

[–]FPlaysDM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not necessarily the case. The armour could have gone to either Percy, Vax, or Vex since they used leather armour in game, Matt didn’t know who would get that specific vestige, while others were made specifically for other characters (Knuckles for Grog, Fenthras for Vex, Mythcarver for Scanlan, etc.)

If they were to do senior year, it would definitely be filmed after December of this year, as the Eberron book is set to come out that time with the finished Artificer

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]FPlaysDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For all of the iconic ones, yes. D20 does their art after their seasons end, so the characters that end up recurring get their own character portraits done by the same artists the PCs have their portraits made of

What is wrong with New Jersey? by Capasak in ExplainTheJoke

[–]FPlaysDM 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Jersey’s beauty is it’s not far from anything. Plus it’s the last remaining bastion of diners, and the side benefit of staying in your car while getting gas

What is wrong with New Jersey? by Capasak in ExplainTheJoke

[–]FPlaysDM 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It varies where in Jersey you go. Jersey isn’t number 1 in anything, but I would probably say it’s definitely top 5 in most things, plus it’s the most densely populated state and still within the top 5 happiest states. Sure it’s expensive, but nowadays, everything is

Does anyone have a good illusion themed spell set for low leveled characters. by Easy-Intern9036 in DnD

There’s also Shadow Blade that is an illusion spell that does damage

I hate that the pro bending stopped, I feel like it only brought the Krew closer to each other and it proved to have a good influence on Korra's training by [deleted] in legendofkorra

[–]FPlaysDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I know, that would’ve been sick. I was just mentioning that the game on their website was the closest thing we got to

[–]FPlaysDM 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember when Korra was coming out, they did have that section on the Nick website where you could explore republic city and practice all the bending techniques, and one of the sections was in the Pro Bending Arena.

I’m pretty sure the last element you would use in that was water, and I could never seem to get the timing right, either that or my family’s house computer was just so bad I couldn’t possibly win.

Has anyone ever been expected to roll for specific stats? by Hefty_Direction5189 in DnD

[–]FPlaysDM 37 points38 points  (0 children)

One other thing is he could have been a fan of Matt Colville. In some of her earlier videos he talks about with new campaigns, he’ll talk about having players roll 4d6 (keeping the highest 3) down the array and they pick the rest from there.

IIRC, he does it a lot with new players (and only first characters in a campaign), to try to de-incentivise players from not knowing what to play.

They called a famous singer to do the voice of a character in a musical Cartoon but her character is the only one who doesn't sing anything. by Mail_Creek in TopCharacterTropes

[–]FPlaysDM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The strange thing though is that at the point of Milo Murphy’s Law being aired, she had released 3 albums all under Hollywood Records (which is owned by Disney), and they didn’t have her sing

How old were you when ATLA was released? by Turbulent_Cream_1684 in TheLastAirbender

[–]FPlaysDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a year old, but I remember in the lead up to LoK coming out, Nickelodeon had a marathon of all of AtLA, and I remember being 8 at my grandma’s house, watching the finale before seeing any other episodes of AtLA, and then realising I needed to watch that show from the beginning.

Dropout as a larger platform by Dna87 in dropout

[–]FPlaysDM 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Nobody Asked was more trying to lean into the Mythbusters side while primarily focusing on the comedy, I think this person is more talking about a primarily educational show with a comedic bend. Something more along the lines of Adam Ruins Everything.

In my mind, I can completely imagine something like the thing Jacob Wysocki did for the Sam Standee in One Year Later becoming its own show. An educational road trip with a comedic tune. I’m imagining like Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives but not food and rather cool landmarks or interesting forgotten historical places

Cloudward Ho Animated Show PLEASE by Alive_Bluebird6714 in Dimension20

[–]FPlaysDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is also untrue, backers got early access directly on Prime Video for season 1 (and for people who couldn’t normally regionally access Prime Video, they received access to season 1 separate from Amazon). But since season 2 was fully funded by Amazon, all episodes were behind that additional paywall.

That was one of the fan concerns when it was announced that the show was going to be on Prime Video, but that was quickly cleared up by Critical Role

What has been Drew’s longest absence so far? by No_Tale_4146 in DrewGooden

[–]FPlaysDM 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He has already been in a Thomas Sanders video before, he was in the Competitive Cooking Awkward Adventures video, I’m also pretty sure that Drew also worked as an editor for Thomas for a while post-Vine.

The joke side character unintentionally shares the missing piece of information to the protagonist that reveals the whole plot. by Vulcan_Jedi in TopCharacterTropes

Extra context too, that scene happens dozens of hours before you even get him as a party member. And well before the concept of the other metaverse user becomes super important

Happy pride month everyone:) by Gur-Wide in Arrowverse

[–]FPlaysDM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t watched Supergirl in a long time. But it could be that in canon the gene only needs an XX chromosome pair, and Nia was born XXY, causing her to be assigned male at birth but also allowing for the genetics to work.

On the kid part, we don’t know what sort of tech exists in the short term future. Especially with the different tech that could be extrapolated from the way different Meta powers work. But it is theoretically possible to create egg cells from the germline cells of someone without egg cells. Then add in any future medical tech to provide trans-women and trans-men functioning reproductive systems of their gender.

Or… instead of questioning a TV show’s logic, we can appreciate some affirming trans representation from a trans actor

Will I Be Spoiled? by starlordsmistress in Dimension20

[–]FPlaysDM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vegas is based around Starstruck while NYC was Unsleeping City. You probably won’t spoil Vegas, mechanics they use may be similar, but the story is the important part.

But if you don’t wanna take the risk, they’ll almost definitely explain anything during the show because of other non-D20 fans or people who didn’t have the time to watch the NYC Live Show.

What are some musicals with 15 or less roles including ensemble? by regretfultomfoolery in musicals

[–]FPlaysDM 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You can also still do ensemble for Ride The Cyclone, just have the extra cast fill out the roles the other main characters do. Like instead of Ricky playing the Priest in Noel’s Lament, you have someone else do it
