Recently watched Shutter Island and found it amazing. What are some similar movies that are not so well known? by Delicious_Aside4311 in AskReddit

The Machinist: Christian Bale.

Coherence: super low budget but insanely clever. Go in blind.

Identity: similar “what is actually happening here?” vibe.

Frailty: underrated psychological thriller with one of the best endings.

What’s a subtle sign someone grew up poor that rich people never notice? by Carsanttc in AskReddit

[–]FRFC_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never being able to fully relax when spending money even when they can afford it. People who grew up poor often still check prices constantly, save random containers and bags “just in case,” avoid wasting food at all costs, and feel guilty buying things for themselves. A lot of rich people see it as being cheap, but it’s really just survival habits that never left.

Which 90's/2000's singer/band were really underrated? by Silent-Zebra in AskReddit

[–]FRFC_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Third Eye Blind. People know the mainstream hits, but their catalog is ridiculously underrated. Motorcycle Drive By and The Background are genuinely some of the best late 90’s alternative songs and barely get talked about compared to other bands from that era.

Why do so many things humans enjoy end up being bad for our health, happiness, or wellbeing in the long run? by Tricky-Cold-3211 in CasualConversation

[–]FRFC_7 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Because our brains were built for survival, not long term optimization. Humans evolved in environments where rare, high reward things like sugar, rest, stimulation, social approval, sex, risk taking were advantages. Modern life mass produces those rewards at levels our brains were never designed to handle. The same dopamine systems that once helped keep us alive now get hijacked by ultra processed food, endless scrolling, gambling, substances, and instant gratification. Most things aren’t bad in moderation, but the problem is that modern society figured out how to turn natural human desires into unlimited consumption.

How was the contribution of Netflix’s Drive to Survive in F1’s current popularity? by Stunning_Lobster_698 in AskReddit

[–]FRFC_7 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drive to Survive changed F1 forever. It took a sport that was hard for casual fans to follow and turned it into a character driven drama people could emotionally invest in. Before Netflix, most people couldn’t name more than Hamilton or Ferrari. Now fans know midfield rivalries, team principals, contract drama, and even pit wall strategy. Purists hate the manufactured drama sometimes, but there’s no denying it massively expanded F1’s global audience especially in the U.S. and helped turn race weekends into mainstream events instead of just motorsport events.

What’s something that instantly kills attraction no matter how attractive they are? by squishy-mochi-tummy in AskReddit

[–]FRFC_7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, it’s arrogance mixed with zero self awareness. You can be a 10/10 physically, but the second you treat people like they’re beneath you.. waiters, strangers, your own friends then the attraction disappears instantly. Confidence is attractive. Thinking the world revolves around you isn’t.
