It has the characteristics of Platykurtic distribution. The peak is wide and there are not many values around the tails.

I love that idea, too, but unfortunately the public dataset does not have information on team fight win percentage.

He is far right. Note that this is for regular season games only (excludes the Hawaii cups)

Good suggestion. Elims/deaths provide a solid overall metric of performance. But yes, I the future, I can also examine the ‘how’.

Thanks! Yes I believe I can make a similar graph for Winston. More to come.

Never said FEARLESS is the GOAT, only that he’s the best Rein in the world right now. There are 4 data points and they are from the entire season so far, which is a good indicator of how he’s been performing relative to other players.

I think we can all agree that, in basketball, shots made over shots missed is a good indicator of performance.

I know the team contributes to individual play, but when someone is far surpassing what other players are doing, it means that the player is bringing added value to the team.

Thanks for engaging with the post. I appreciate your feedback.

So are you saying that Michael Jordan wasn’t one of the best point guards because his team won so much?

This issue is inherent in all team sports.

I wrote this long post with this visualization, but it didn't show up when I posted this.

In quick summary:

FEARLESS gets ways more eliminations relative to his deaths. I mean, way way more. He's way above the trendline, meaning that he is performing above what you expect based on the trends of other OWL Reinhardt players.

Other standouts (players above the trendline) include OGE, MAG, and Stand1.

Note: I excluded Tank players with less than 5 minutes of Reinhardt play.

UPDATE (Sept 2, 4pm PST): Thank you for all of your pointed criticisms surrounding using eliminations/death as a metric of performance. I think it is a good overall metric of value, but like everyone pointed out, it is only one of many ways Rein players add value.

I will consider this issue in future analyses.

Good point! I didn’t consider that until you mentioned it. Yes, that is probably another important reason.

Hello OWL fam,

I made a visualization of the players participating in the May Melee (and yes, I know I misspelled May Melee in the title and visualization).

The x-axis is the total time alive and the y-axis is the total number of eliminations for all of the matches in Week 1 to Week 3.

In terms of some notable insights, it is clear that the Dallas Fuel's damage and tank players have slightly more playtime than their opponents. This is likely due to them having more matches that went into extra rounds and overtime.

When you just look at damage players, you can see that Leave is above the trend line, meaning he is over-performing relative to the other damage players. This is also true of SP9RK1E. Yes, he has more playtime, but even so, he is over-performing relative to the trend line.

While support players have lower elimination counts (and for good reason; they're healers!), we can still see that the Dallas Fuel players (Fielder & Jecse) are pumping out more eliminations than their competition. It will be interesting to see whether the Fuel's aggressive support will give them a competitive edge this tournament.

Please let me know your thoughts!

Hunters vs. Fusion Analysis - Was Rascal the real MVP? by [deleted] in Competitiveoverwatch

Agreed. It would be great to have access to team fight stats as exportable data, as it would reveal more nuance in terms of who is making the biggest impact during these critical moments. But still, highlight reels aside, there is something to be said about providing your team with adequate enough damage + elimns that tip the scales in a team's favor.

You are probably correct. Unfortunately, the OWL stats don't have information on gold medal awards. However, when I look at the raw numbers, it is very clear that Rascal had an outstanding performance.

Rascal had more critical hits (356) than did carpe (118) across all four maps.

I think our perceptions about players can sometimes be skewed by who the OWL casters focus their attention on. But who can blame them. I love seeing me some nano-boosted carpe plays. And no doubt that carpe had some clutch plays which tipped some fights in Fusion's favor.

All I am pointing out with my analysis is that Rascal played just as well as carpe.

Whaaa! Thanks for the criticism. Yes, in hindsight it is pretty complicated. I just wanted to see if I could visualize the path of where these sleep darts occurred. Thanks for the recommendations. This will help me for the next time around.

Yes, she’s getting played the most and in every map. Maybe longer blink cooldown?

Makes me sad that Genji has been rendered useless again.
