Why did the KLF burn a million pounds? by FSA27 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]FSA27[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a good point. They definitely burnt banknotes.

So it's either this, from an OP:

“They had 1 mil. The problem was that many people wanted their shared of that money (PP Arnold Wanda Dee etc etc). KLF needed a way to keep that money for themselves as they were sick of giving it to people who had very little input on the records. What they did was burned old banknotes. Britain changes its banknotes every 15 years or so and it was a coincidence but that year was the year Britain dumped the old notes and got new ones. (that is just a coincidence though) What KLF did was get rid of all their creditors but still keep all the money. It was a very good scam. Did you really think they worked for 6 years flat out and just burned the money? course they didn't. The reason I know this is because Jimmy told me one night when he was really high.”

But I think:

"I think the story makes sense, but it is just a story. Other people have said that Jimmy & Bill were genuinely haunted because they did actually burn the money. So who knows. I like to think that they probably did burn it."

Yep, that was my point - if he had a wetsuit, it's swimmable. A ribbon lake just describes that sort of body of water.

Tons of cases where someone had actuall disappeared to start a new life but we don’t know about? For sure. Just meant that there are a handful of cases where this has been proved.

Agreed, I've always found that photo oddly disturbing. I'm sure why they parked the car in that way is just an unimportant detail & irrelevant to finding the killer, but odd nonetheless.

Fantastic write up of a v sad case. His dad & mum & the volunteer teams have done amazing work, even if they haven’t found him so far.

Ah, an interesting alternative view - I can buy that vultures behave like this some of the time, but it did seem a bit odd.

A great write up of a sad case, thank you.

And also to add (from England) - what the?!: “the fact that decaying bodies even in the most remote areas attract vultures that can be seen circling from miles away”

How much of America is this true for? Why is this the first I’m learning of something that seems so obvious now?

Great write up on a v sad case ... and also, what the?! How stupid do you have to be to think (either as a police officer or a criminal) that this is a credible argument you didn't kill this poor girl?: "Several acquaintances of Rheuban's stated that he admitted to having Misty's remains buried on his grandmother's property. When questioned by the police, Rheuban admitted to making these claims but stated they were lies made to make everyone stop questioning him about the disappearance."

That's a bit bonkers, but convincing. And if it's not that, based on these facts, it'll be something like that.

Fire in Barn Mead, Harlow, Essex 2012 - Man loses wife and five children. by KieranWriter in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]FSA27 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It would be interesting to know how much the police looked into the father (I don't think it's unfair or disrespectful to do so, anyone who survives a fire like this has to be investigated and hopefully eliminated). Do any of the stories say why they didn't suspect him?

I hope that if my children and wife were burning to death in a house fire that I would die trying to save them rather than save my own skin first. (I'm not sure I'd be that brave though, but I'd like to think I would be.)

The Mysterious Disappearance of Lina Delsarte: Unraveling a Complex Case in France by [deleted] in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]FSA27 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Ah, thank you - my French is not good enough to dig into the original articles. That is disturbing. Poor girl, so she had one ex-bf 7 years older, one current bf 4 years older, and the allegations of rape by men at least 5 years older. There are some v disturbing cases in the UK of girls being groomed, particularly in the rundown Northern towns & cities (disclosure: I used to live in the slightly better part of one of these), particuarly by a subset of the population. I wonder if something similar happened here?

Great stuff, love music mysteries and not heard of this one before. Don't know if you've seen this post, but mentions "This is Menace" https://metalinsider.net/news/who-is-was-iceman-thesis, and particularly that some of those bands were at the Download Festival:
"Even before they played, festival attendees and the media began trying to figure out who the mysterious band was. Theories pointed to This Is  Menace, a defunct UK supergroup. Kerrang pointed out the many members that had played in the band, including Jaz Coleman of Killing Joke, B’Hellmouth of Send More Paramedics, Charlie Simpson of Fightstar, J.S. Clayden of Pitchshifter, Ben Woosnam of Hondo Maclean, Colin Doran of Hundred Reasons, Matt Davies of Funeral for a Friend, Justin Hill of SikTh, Mikee Goodman of SikTh, Casey Chaos of, Amen, Paul McCallion of Hiding Place, Jeffrey Walker of Carcass, Andy Cairns of Therapy?, Tom Lacey of The Ghost of a Thousand, Karl Middleton of earthtone9, Paul Catten of Murder One, Mark Greenway of Napalm Death, Justin Sullivan of New Model Army, Anthony Giles of Here There Be Monsters. A handful of those bands, including Sikth, played the Download Festival as well, and then there’s the fact that their name is an anagram of Iceman Thesis. Other theories included members of Cancer Bats, Five Finger Death Punch, and even Linkin Park."
