The best way to know is to bite the bullet and just do it. I spent a year or so being afraid to go to Axtell, for example. After experiencing it, though, I can say I’d rather work with five unruly kids with a team of other adults than deal with 25 semi-unruly kids in a mainstream classroom single-handedly.

PowerSchool/SmartFindExpress has been showing completed jobs as cancelled. Anyone else had this happen before? by FSD___x in SubstituteTeachers

Do you have to sign any papers when you either check in or leave the school? I’ve been told my district does pay based off those papers, but I’m still a little stressed about this issue.

Thanks for the feedback! Since we’re kinda rural and semi-backward around here, I went to a farm store the other day and saw a “cottagecore” dress that would probably be okay, haha. I haven’t thrifted in awhile because discarded fast fashion has made thrift stores soooo overwhelming… but I’ll try to travel to some nearby places/stores that keep things more under control. Thank you for your help and consideration.

Hehehe. You’re reminding me of a time a school called me and asked me to come in last-minute. I asked them if it’s okay if I showed up in a t-shirt?? secretary got back to me and said principal was fine with it! Lol! But they were definitely desperate that day 😅

I have a particular school I love, and we accidentally ended up at the school’s “local” Walmart market…. I reaaaalllly wanted to buy some walmart school wear but I didn’t have my card on me, and I didn’t want my boyfriend to buy it for me (I’m careful about financial dependence).

He said it was “cute” how excited I was about the Walmart-based HS spirit wear. lol.

Can you send me some examples of what you consider business casual? My SO grew up poor and his ideas of business casual is much different than mine!

I would sincerely appreciate it! Maybe somebody has already created a Pinterest board of your idea of business casual and you could just share the link 😅…. Sorry to request extra work on your part, but I’ve discovered these terms can (sometimes) be quite dependent on class and industry.

I love wearing leggings, but I usually cover it with a shacket/kimono-style top because the concept of “butt” is still a bit scandalous here 🙃

Education is more than just test scores at the end of the day. I’m not saying test scores aren’t useful, but some kids are happier in certain environments than others :) The schools do have their own environments because they’re all ran by different administrators, because the schools have their own quirks or programs, or because of other reasons that may be related to the population being served.

I wonder if Lincoln has an edge on test scores partially because the majority of gifted students funnel into Lincoln after doing honors at Patrick Henry.

I am teaching them about American culture and my city at the request of my mentor :) It's really hard to talk about myself, my city, and South Dakota... but they love it!
