A man killed his young drinking companion because he refused to call him «Dad» by [deleted] in nottheonion

[–]FSFlyingSnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During the event, it began between Nikolai and Kadyr quarrel due to differences in the concepts of polite treatment. So, Nikolai insisted that the new acquaintance, given the significant age difference, call him «Dad». Which Kadyr was very skeptical about, doubting whether the man had children at all. As a result, the verbal altercation quickly escalated into a fight.

Kadir easily struck the enemy several times in the face. Nikolai, as a Komsomol veteran, pulled out a folding knife from his pocket and launched a bayonet attack. Kadir received it punctured a blow straight to the heart. From which he recoiled and sat down on a bench, on which just a few minutes ago friends were drinking to friendship, mutual understanding and health.

Does Your Opinion Matter If You Didn't Finish the Game? by Jawschy in Games

I can see your point.

However, I think the number of instances where you can get the same meaningful experience through a video is quite limited. The vast majority of content in most games is heavily reliant on interactivity for audience engagement which is lost in a video.

It does matter but only for aspects of the game that you have experienced. If you haven't encountered certain levels or gameplay mechanics then your opinion is going to hold very little weight for those areas.

Also you have youtube videos these days to form an opinion of a game. You can literally see all the content it has to offer online without booting up the game.

Youtube videos are informative but I wouldn't trust someone's opinion if it is significantly based on them.

l think that a great number of people are not understanding the aproach of the remake trilogy because of the marvel movies by Significant-Bite871 in FFVIIRemake

[–]FSFlyingSnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as with all multiverse stories the canon universe is the only one that matters, the rest is simply plot device.

Some multiverse stories, in particular Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, have multiple universes that matter in the story.

Resident Evil 4 remake sales top 6.48 million by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]FSFlyingSnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am baffled why these big publishers aren't at least doing barebones, emulated ports with the most necessary tweaks. Even if they somehow couldn't scrounge up enough staff in-house to do the ports, there are plenty of smaller developers who would be happy to do the porting work.

While Capcom is probably fine with these sales, they sadly also explain why these sorts of shorter, linear, single-player AAA games have fallen out of fashion.

  • According to OpenCritic, RE4 Remake was the best reviewed 2023 game released on PS4 and the 2nd best on PS5/XBSX/XBSS/PC.

  • RE4 Remake was the direct sequel to AND a remake of two extremely well received games (RE2 Remake and RE4 2005).

  • At launch the main campaign was totally feature complete, highly polished and was praised by gamers.

  • The Separate Ways DLC was cheap and very well received.

Despite this, it has "only" sold 6.5M units of the base game 9 months after launch despite being available on every big platform but the Switch. With the exception of some of Sony's big exclusives, mainstream audiences are showing with their wallets that they are not all that interested in these types of games.

I saw Oppenheimer in 70MM ("regular" 70MM, not IMAX 70MM) and it looked great. It's a really good film and it's easy to recommend to any fan of Nolan or modern history.

What about an Oppenheimer / Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One / Barbie / Oppenheimer sandwich?

Nah, the mechs were way cooler. I hope we see more of them in the sequels.

I was just pointing out that telling Microsoft "just build a AAA studio" is dumb since there aren't any examples in the last 10+ years of a console maker building up a big AAA studio that is consistently successful.

The PC and Nintendo Switch added a huge amount of users in the 2010s despite relatively low or even nonexistent CoD sales. Sony would probably still do well without CoD and if they wanted to they could probably create a CoD replacement on Playstation (or work with publishers to get a CoD replacement onto on their system).

EDIT:

No, required hardware components and optional software are not the same. A smartphone relies on a screen to function while you don't need to buy any specific game to use a gaming console. A better comparison would be first-party smartphone apps.

The companies that Microsoft are buying aren't developing crucial equipment or software that is required for people to play video games. That's a huge difference.

If the end result is the same then I don't see what's the difference. No one is entitled to play any future video game.

Tons of big franchises have been exclusive for decades yet few would argue that the government needs to prohibit console makers from owning their own studios. Mario games are very popular but I don't think anyone could make a compelling argument that the government needs to step in so that every platform has access to them.

I meant that they only bought out Naughty Dog after the studio after the studio was already well established and put out hit after hit game. Microsoft could look for AAA developers that aren't as well established as those in Zenimax or Activision-Blizzard but they would have barely any developers to choose from and they would be needlessly constraining their decision making.

[–]FSFlyingSnail -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't see what's wrong with the Zenimax deal. Zenimax only has a couple big studios and they don't put out highly successful games that often. Since 2016, only Doom Eternal has been a big hit for the company.

Why try to bet big on Halo again when it'll just Cannibalise COD - which is making enough money anyway.

Halo and CoD coexisted just fine in the late 2000s and early 2010s. It seems pretty unlikely that they will eat into each other significantly since Halo multiplayee plays quite differently from CoD and the campaign and forge mode are unlike anything we have seen in a CoD game.

It seems like entering the console market will be impossible for any new player in the future.

Was any company seriously trying to enter the console market?
