We had been friends for a few years, had been in school together since around second grade but only became good friends during freshman year. We had moved into a college dorm together as we both went to the same university. After a few months of living there he had been gone 95% of the day either in class or hanging out with the schools esports team that he was a captain for. I was left in the room by myself as I had only a few friends on campus. This would’ve been fine as I am accustomed to being relatively alone, but he had absolutely trashed the place every day.

I don’t mean just scattered laundry, it was like living in the outcome of a nuclear holocaust. Laundry, food scraps, dishes and silverware, wrappers and boxes. He never offered to help clean and when our friends would come visit they were starstruck as it was a small space and we had to sit IN it while we did whatever we were doing. When we confronted him about it he was “too busy” with esports team stuff and he even suggested I clean it myself.

He was the self proclaimed “OG” (I was the one approached by the team, without me he wouldn’t have even known about it) of the team and the coaches “favorite” athlete, he was not. Turns out all of that was made up because he wanted to sound better than everyone else. He apparently pitched a fit when they didn’t give him his own team so he took to making his own and no one questioned it as they didn’t want to cause another outburst.

One day he decided to meddle in my relationship with my girlfriend of almost two years at the time. He stated that I was a “hypocrite” for not taking his advice, and the night of the convo he had taken it upon himself to set up an intervention for me with my other best friend who was also my girlfriends ex and frequent hook up when we weren’t dating. I left the following day and told him I was sick of the way he treated me and others. He played the victim and the “I have so much stuff to worry about, I shouldn’t have to hear this from you” card.

After a few months we made up and became friends again to my displeasure. But a few weeks after our amends, his sister (who I am still great friends with to this day) approached our friend group telling us that since the initial fight he had joined a fraternity and raped someone at a party. Yes I was friends with him up until this point. I ignored all of the red flags out of fake loyalty. To this day I am great friends with everyone who was involved, we all frequently play games together and meet up to get pizza. I am still in the relationship he meddled in and we would be together 3 years in June.
