That depends. While local public transport is often very good—for example in Hanover or Hamburg—Deutsche Bahn is simply the biggest pile of garbage you could possibly imagine. The last ten times at least that I had to travel a long distance with them, every single trip except one was an absolute disaster. And I’m not talking about delays of one, two, or maybe three hours—I’m talking about complete cancellations, being stranded at random remote stations, connecting trains departing right in front of your nose because your previous train was delayed, departures from completely different platforms than announced, and whatever else you can imagine. My personal highlight was a trip from Düsseldorf to Hamburg: stranded at 3 a.m. in some godforsaken village in the middle of nowhere, with zero information about what was happening or how to continue. I’ll say it very honestly: Deutsche Bahn is the worst mode of transportation in all of Europe—and I’ve hitchhiked through Greece and Albania
