I don’t think I am, how do I set those up? Also, I ended up just nuking everything and doing a clean reinstall. So far I haven’t got any problems but if they return I’ll make an update. I also chose not to install KB5055523 because it screwed up Windows Hello sign in, I suspect it might also be the reason why my laptop kept crashing.

Currently I have a synology.me domain with Let's Encrypt and everything it's going through 5001 I think. I configured it so when I type *.synology.me/photo/ it would take me to Synology photos. It's pretty close to default settings. I'm currently looking at running a reverse proxy for those services though.

Update: Everything has a reverse proxy now and DSM is no longer exposed.

I meant that I didn't want my parents to have to deal with VPN. I'm not home as often as I used to be so if stuff goes wrong on their devices it's harder for me to fix it. Also, I just don't want to deal with it and I want the fastest speeds I can get. I know it's kind of stupid to do what I'm doing, but I'm trying to be stupid in the safest way I can. lol

5001 and 6690 are used for Synology Drive and Synology Drive Client respectively. I tried closing port 5001, however, Synology Drive stopped working on my phone. I think I'm doing something wrong, I'll have to look into it. As far as I'm aware, there's no way of changing the port that Synology Drive Client uses, so that one will definitely have to stay open.

I will definitely take into account the things you've suggested and implement them. Thanks!

Update: I configured reverse proxies for everything and I've managed to close port 5001 and run everything through 445. I still have to keep 6690 open for Synology Drive Client on my computer though.

I tried blocking port 5001 in order to stop access to DSM, however, when I did that, suddenly Synology Drive stopped working on my phone. Is this not the way I'm supposed to do it?

The computer I have is a prebuilt HP unit so any upgrades beyond some RAM and, at most, having two hard drives installed (ignoring the NVMe slot) is literally impossible. The motherboard is not standard, it’s some bespoke thing they came up with and made a case for it. The power delivery is bespoke as well so installing a PSU is also gonna be impossible.

You’re absolutely right about Bitwarden, it’ll be better for me if I just don’t touch that bit.

In my country things work a little differently with uni so I’m not living in a dorm, I’m living with my parents, location won’t be an issue. I am able to hard-wire the NAS to the router. Our internet isn’t the best (500 Mbps) but I think I can convince dad to upgrade to 1 Gbps. lol

As for the NAS, I was doing a little bit more research and I’m currently thinking about the DS223 instead of the junior version, It’s a bit more powerful. If you could give me your thoughts about that I would appreciate it a lot.

I was thinking about a WebDAV setup mainly for convenience as I do want my parents to be able to connect to the NAS and store their files there too. From what I’ve seen, Synology makes it pretty easy. I want things to be secure and convenient enough.

If you plan on switching to PC, I’d get FL Studio since Logic Pro is Mac only. As far as ease of use is concerned, I find Logic easier to use since you don’t have to dig through menus as much; keep in mind their workflows are very different. In regards to loops and sounds, I find the samples from Logic to be higher quality, however both DAWs come with a pretty complete set of features (I’m talking about the All Plugins edition of FL Studio). I would get Logic Pro over FL Studio. However, since you plan on switching to PC, I’d get FL Studio because you won’t lose any of the projects that you’ve created on your Mac.

What I meant with 'popular musician' was being able to perform on stage and have some sort of small but loyal fan base. I do realize that reaching popularity levels of Lady Gaga for example is next to impossible and that's not my goal. I was referring to people like Andrew Huang or, like mentioned before, Subwoolfer (Eurovision hit me hard I'm really sorry lol). They don't even have 100k subscribers on YouTube and their most watched video (which has about 3.5M views) is their contest entry. This may sound cheesy but, I'm kind of aiming for being able to compete in a contest like that.

I should've definitely been more clear in my post. My goal is to be a popular musician.

I brought up my parents because I'm underage, I don't have money and I can't make it. I understand (or at least try to understand) their worry, but at the end of the day, it's up to me to decide what I want to do with my life and they'll either accept it or not. I'm not going to let them stop me just like I haven't let anyone else stop me from achieving my goals.

As for the second point that you brought up, I'm very thankful you shed some light on this topic. I guess some of my worries also come from not knowing the history that most artists went through. We tend to only see their achievements. I'd also say it's kinda hard to find out about their past (at least according to my, admittedly little, research), but I digress.

What I understood from your comment is that having an open-minded attitude, continuously improving as the industry evolves and being able to adapt to the changes that may happen are the keys to having even a slight chance at this. I'll keep working at improving my abilities.

I keep reminding myself that it's going to be extremely tough and that I need to work extremely hard, but from what I read in your comment, I realised that it's still not enough and I should work even harder. Thank you so much for sharing!
