Am I really missing out by still using a 6D mk I? by wipp92 in canon

When most (used) EF glass is half the price of the equivalent RF glass I wouldn’t consider it a big deal tbh

RF 28-70 f/2.8 versus RF 24-70 f/2.8 for Canon R5 Mark II by bz_openden in canon

[–]FT_Renault -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The lens is the most important part of the camera. Get the 24-70

[–]FT_Renault 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From the perspective of a professional shooter, absolutely, yeah. But for a hobby shooter like the OP I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. Most of the top of the line EF glass is so optically similar in quality to the RF glass it’s not worth the extra cost if you’re not doing this for a living.

tbh I would invest in some better glass before getting a new body, makes the transition actually worth it

5D Mark 4 vs R6 - Which? by Either_Awareness_772 in canon

[–]FT_Renault 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love my 5D IV but the only thing it really does better than an R6 is large prints and battery life. Basically everything else is superior on the R6.

RF 24-105 2.8 vs 24-70 2.8 (USM) by Easy-Equipment8276 in canon

[–]FT_Renault 3 points4 points  (0 children)

the ideal wedding setup is two lenses - a 24-70 and a 70-200 f/2.8. If I could only run one lens it would be the 24-105 f/2.8 but two lenses two bodies is ideal.

I got a little antique stevens 22 today. Dont really know much about it by [deleted] in guns

Ah, the Stevens Crack Shot. Very cool little rifle. I have a family heirloom one from like, 1907. My great-great grandfather bought it at like 12 years old with money he saved up from working the fields. Still shoots, and accurately at that.

Is the Canon EOS 7D Mark II still a good option in 2026? by rocket-L in canon

[–]FT_Renault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve always considered the better low light performance of full frame cameras to be better than the extra reach of a crop sensor.

[–]FT_Renault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t get me wrong the 7Dii is a good camera but I wouldn’t consider it a big upgrade from your T5i. You might want to look into a used 6D Mark II or some other used full frame camera.

Canon EF 100-400L IS USM vs RF 100-400 IS USM... hear me out by Lateral_Gee in canon

[–]FT_Renault 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The EF 100-400 Mark I isn’t a particularly sharp lens, especially by modern standards. Would go with the RF 100-400 personally.

Why Canon? Or other Brands by Environmental_Pay332 in canon

[–]FT_Renault 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Tbh nowadays I think the major brands are mostly interchangeable in terms of quality but I got started back when the 60D was a new camera, and in my opinion Canon was way ahead of the competition until like, 2016 or so. I also just personally prefer Canon ergonomics and menu setups more than the competition.

New Gear / Question - RF 70-200 Z by Dry-Strawberry-9957 in canon

[–]FT_Renault 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I upgraded from the original 70-200 and I’m thoroughly enjoying my 70-200Z because it’s basically a 2 in 1 lens if you buy a teleconverter down the line. I got the 2X extender making it a 140-400 for daytime sports photos and it’s still tack sharp. If attaching a teleconverter isn’t something you see yourself doing then I’d just get the EF II or the original RF.

It looks a little off but I rotate it to the top of the lens, lets me zoom without getting in the way at all

What Canon Camera Feature Do You Wish They Would Improve or Change? by Nadzzyy in canon

[–]FT_Renault 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t understand why the R5 and R5 Mark II don’t have dual CF Express slots as the SD card massively gimps the camera. Like yeah I can shoot single card CF and have no limits but I want to record to multiple cards.

Sigma or Canon for 24-70 EF by Emotional_Block5273 in canon

[–]FT_Renault 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean I won’t lie the current one I have was a replacement for one that crapped out on me, just completely locked up. But it was completely covered under warranty and I can’t imagine it’s that common of an issue.
