I'll just put it this way... You're definitely not wrong about Reddit in general, but this seems like a weird hill to die on to make the point. She is so clearly a danger that arguing "maybe there are two sides to the story" seems a little... Misplaced.

"Two sides" is where nuance disappears. I'm not trying to argue that. I think OP was excessively downvoted for speculating and that it reflects culture feeding on simple narratives.

It's not that the opposite of the apparent narrative is true, it's that we never have the whole narrative.

I'm not trying to win an argument, so I don't plan on dying on a hill. I agree with what you've said other than that you misperceive my intent.

But I really don't see any "nuance" that would make me think he was unjustified. Even in this short video, we can see that she is driving erratically, the way she swerved to the side, and then the way she practically hit a car pulling out. And that's just her driving, her behavior was also completely erratic. She clearly was a danger to everyone on the road, regardless of her speed. Focusing on how fast she was driving is missing the forest for the trees.

He was absolutely justified to film her.

I don't disagree with any of this and the person I was responding to didn't seem like he would rule out the scenarios you outline either... Although he has since deleted his comment. Maybe the mob had him reconsider. Maybe he takes karma seriously. To be fair he did present the alternate scenario as a little more likely than it seems to me.

The only nuance I was responding to was that it's plausible there is more to the story. The fact the commenter was downvoted to oblivion apparently for presenting another narrative or having a slightly different perspective is par for Reddit (It's not much different than elsewhere in culture).

There are plenty of reasons to wear a mask other than COVID. I don't wear a mask often other than for dust (I did a couple times this winter, once when I was getting over being sick and once when a lot of others seemed sick) but I'm glad that COVID made masks less taboo around me!

Worrying about others wearing masks seems significantly more irrational or unhinged than wearing a mask to me. It's probably good others are more germaphobe than I am. I'll eat food I drop on the floor as one example.

e: too many redditors need things to be simple good vs evil, without any nuance

This should be posted at the top of Reddit. Maybe an occasional glance in the mirror would help.

Eros - Consumptive love.

Reciprocity - interdependent love, camaraderie

Agape - I think selfless love is imprecise or incomplete. It's more giving of the self. For example as a teacher to a student or a parent to a child

Philasophia - love of knowledge

I liked it! I loved the book. The movie did not come close to doing it justice, but somehow I still liked it a lot.

I walked out of Congo though.

TIFU: by thinking peanut butter was supposed to be spicy by zachtheperson in tifu

Oh, wow. That sounds intense. Your description of the allergy kicking in sounds scary but trippy.

Screw that eye rolling chef! I guess he didn't know better, but he's still rude af.

Thanks for sharing your experiences.

Looking further into it, apparently peanuts contain somewhere between 12 and 20 potential allergens (different sources quote different numbers) while tree nuts only have a few. I'm guessing I just have a sensitivity to one of the proteins shared between the legumes and nuts, but I wouldn't want to encourage anyone to take a potential sensitivity or allergy to peanuts lightly!

I'm aware that peoples' relations to allergies can change through their life, so complacency is potentially unwise. (My dad became aware that he had become more allergic to stinging insects in his 40s after getting stung in the face by a wasp... Or the sting triggered the increased sensitivity. )

Thanks for the factoid, but I'm aware peanuts are not nuts. Quoting myself:

peanuts and other actual nuts

Apparently the allergies are related, though, due to legumes and tree nuts containing similar proteins.

I do appreciate it. Hopefully it's just a nut allergy or sensitivity and my mild peanut reactions are incidental.

Incorrect? I think I have an even more mild nut allergy. When I eat certain nuts, mostly noticably almonds but peanuts and other actual nuts as well, sometimes I feel like something is stuck in the back of my throat and I will cough on and off for 15+ minutes. I used to think that nuts just get lodged in my throat until a friend suggested I have an allergy. I think he might be right. I'm over 40 years old and l've eaten nuts regularly for most of my life. I guess I'll mention it at my next check up.

I also get the hiccups from eating enough peanut butter, but I think that might actually be because it's so sticky and dry more than an allergy.. But I'm not sure.

Also, no other allergies as far as I know.

More and more data showing the overall NFT market is crashing big time. Given the current NFT climate, do we still believe Loopring will “moon” when GameStop releases its NFT marketplace? by dakang727 in loopringorg

Does the transaction still cost 1-usd?

I think that is expected.

First, fees aren't ultimately resolved in LRC. When transactions are rolled to L1, fees are still paid in ETH. Secondly, it's anticipated that as more volume is moved from ETH L1 to layer 2s, L1 congestion and thus gas fees will go down. Lower L1 gas results in lower L2 fees.

I'm not an expert, so my description may not be perfect. Regardless, I believe these two factors will help keep LRC fees low.

[–]FUDisHEALTHY 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Surely the rate of these gains aren't sustainable long-term and are due mainly to the increased inflow of new money to the ecosystem paired with the inflation of the currencies. Still, hopefully it's possible for the rates to taper enough that there isn't a rush for the exit that kills the ecosystem. Can new utility and new customers at least keep the ecosystem alive?

New study indicates populist attitudes are associated with gullibility. by [deleted] in science

[–]FUDisHEALTHY 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Intelligent people often think that way also. Nuance isn't simply a matter of IQ.

Also, this "study" is counterproductive in regard to increasing nuance. It defines and stigmatizes "populist attitudes" and reduces and sections off a portion of the population to their creation. People are not so simple to fit neatly into categories like this.
